although our old cat had serious issues, i think she was locked in a cupboard for ages when she was little but i'm not sure of the details, as a result she hated everyone except my mum

aww my boyfriend's sister's cat has issues as well.. before he lived with her, he lived with a family that had a lot of children and they kept chasing him and pulling his tail etc, as a result he's really shy and skittish, even now. he's totally clumsy as well for a cat, he always falls off the fence and takes a few tries to jump up. so cute. eta: shycat! before i met him, i had no idea cats could have issues with eye-contact. i find it really odd. it's taken him 2 years to trust me!

AW that's so cute. Link wasn't well looked after before we got him and you can still see it a bit, but mainly in how affectionate he is to us and his eating habits. EDIT: Here's Linky
