I vote cats, because they are my favourite. Some people think they are cold, but actually I don't think they are. Oh, and when I was a baby we had a dog and it didn't like me and tried to eat my head. He liked my sister though.

when I was a baby a dog tried to eat me. Actually, last december a dog tried to eat me. It chased me across a field growling and then the owner said "it won't hurt you"
It was definitely going to hurt me.

i get so pissed off with dog owners who are like "oh he won't bite you" when their dog is all snappy and growly and then i'm like "REALLY? how can you be so sure? it's got fucking teeth doesn't it?"

I hate dogs so much so my vote was easy. I don't have many horrific personal memories linked with dogs, but my mind is full of memories from my early childhood of dogs chasing my little sister into the water at a beach so she fell over and swallowed lots of sea water and when one chased her around in a circle for 5 minutes. Ok, that last memory still makes me laugh out loud about 12 years later, almost as much as the time she fell off the roundabout and tried to get back on but was knocked in the face by the pole while it was still spinning, but these memories must be traumatic for her.

I love both, and I have both, but I voted cats, as I grew up with them, and have always been a cat person. But I love my dogs, too.

I vote cats because dogs are usually quite smelly. Also dogs broke into my garden a few weeks ago and tried to eat me and my rabbit and I had to fend them off with a broom. Don't get that shit from cats.

I have a traumatic memory of dogs from when I was really small. It was snowing, and I was out for a walk with my dad, all bundled up from the cold and having pleasant time. My neighbor happens to have at least three very fluffy and very white dogs, and because of all the snow they blended in to the very air. They were very friendly dogs who wanted to play with the small child, but since I was so small they wound up knocking me over multiple times, getting snow all in my coat, and losing one of my mittens. I had to crawl under a bush to escape them.
Ah, fond memories.

I vote cats, because, firstly I own a particularly nice one, yet I also own a dog. But dogs are smelly and lick you too much, and one bit me last week But cats rule. They say cat's are like flatmates and dogs are like children and PatPat and I can get along in harmony doing our own things then curling up with a book or some egg fried rice. Yet had there been a ferret button I would have voted that, because they're just so fun and zany!

DOGS. Cats -- and kittens especially -- can be cute and nice to be around and pet on occasion, but I prefer not to live with them. My dog is sort of an idiot, but he's so squishable and adorable and affectionate. He's shown me so much more love than I can imagine any cat ever doing.

I usually dislike other people's pets and only like my own. He happens to be a cat but that doesn't mean I prefer him that way. Fucking claws.

Dogs.
FFS, it's not even a question.
It's a cliche but dogs and cats really do seem to be the animal kingdom manifestations of the male and female (stereotypical) nature respectively, and being a misogynist who murdered his last girlfriend via a thousand paper cuts using the pages of The Female Enuch, my selection is obvious. I'm only shitting you, in reality I'd go as far as to say women where my joint favourite gender.. seriously!

hmm, I'm not sure about that. I can think of quite a range of stereotypical male and female natures, and with both sexes you get the enthusiastic people who won't go away and the uppity ones who don't want to talk to you. And then some in the middle, maybe they are the human form of the cartoon CatDog.

I don't get why people think cat's aren't affectionate. The majority of cats I know (and mine in particular) adore their owners -Link's like my little furry shadow.

i don't get that either! my cat is very affectionate, too. she just doesn't tolerate horrible people very well, i think she's a great judge of character
