Best video he's done so far, but still some serious cringey bits. I don't like the mix of Vulture either, it sounds so... cheap.

yeah, nice video, i think it fits the song well. i love the b&w, high quality video. but it seems a bit.... home movie-ish, which might just be because the camera never moves, or the fact that his BDSM costume was sort of juvenile, almost (or maybe i've just known very kinky people, and this simply pales in comparison to their git up). i guess i feel like this isn't as natural/true as his other personas/videos. i understand costumes and characters, but this one isn't as believable as wolf-lycanthrope, or dark-witw, or glittery-magic position, its trying to be controversial when patrick is perfectly, gloriously shocking as he is. i'm probably reading too much into all this. i certainly love the direction his music is taking, my favorite all time pw song is bloodbeat (or tristan..?) and this is sort of in the same vein, i can't wait for an album full of this deliciousness. however, when you compare the tristan video to this, tristan seems so much more unique and emotional than this one. vulture the song is great, but with a bit less emphasis on the voice, and a bit more powerful chorus, it could be fabulous. same with the video: it is great, but with a camera movement and more believable bondage, it could be stupendous. but ultimately, i like it. except for the lack of camera movement. I TOTALLY agree with you.I couldn't explain this better. Yeah, this video lacks of credibility,IMO...by Patrick I was expecting more Believe me,it's really difficult for me to criticize what he does cause I have so much faith in his honesty and hard work...but I also try my best to be objective, from time to time Unfortunately I don't like this video too much...it's a pity cause I had great expectations. On the other hand I think that he's a musician and that the song is perfect, and at last this is the most important thing.I can survive

Like pretty much all of his other videos, it feels like a great concept hindered by budget restrictions, which ends up in a mediocre result. I really like the "vulture" outfit, but the whole video doesn't really go anywhere.
nice ass btw, and the song is still awesome.

I really love the song but I kinda feel like I'm intruding by seeing that much of him, it just makes me feel a bit awkward.

hahaha, alec empire...
ALEC_EMPIRE: just seen the UNCENSORED Patrick Wolf video for Vultures (not the myspace one): S E X ATTACK ! even the porn sites couldn't show that! cool about 6 hours ago from web
curiouser and curiouser.
he also just sent this reply to patrick's twitter (even though he doesn't use it): I want my fax and landline calls only. Next time I send you sheets with notes in an envelope! I found a box with ATR VHS videos!
they are strangely adorable. in a kindred spirits sort of way. not the fanfiction way.

He looks well fit with the quiff and his shirt, but I must the say the writhing about makes me awkward.
Although it just would in general. It's interesting.
eta: it seems as if it's cheapened, the s&m and so on, made childish-- as if it's a role to be played, albeit not entirely well. and the flashy bits are so flashy!

As far as camera movements, I think we're forgetting the fact that mostly all of Patrick's videos up to TMP were low budget and extremely minimal. The set up chosen for "Vulture" is almost exactly like that of "Wind In The Wires," except that it's even more visually appealing. For me, such a simple set up enabled for the story to be told best, while creating a work of art.
It definitely is different, but I love it.

Huh...5 pages since yesterday. I managed to watch it just at 5 (9pm, I guess) so I only saw it the once, but I thought it was pretty good, and I did like the back and forth shots and the 'd-d-d-d-d-dead meat" choppy bit, and yeah, it was good. I think it goes well with the song.
The lead up to the premiere made it seem like the video was going to be trying to shock and disturb as opposed to just be about the song so I was glad it wasn't too over the top. (although Jay wrote about that uncensored version? That sounds like it could be too literal of an approach to visualizing the song. It might be better to have to add some imagination.)
The parts where he is the 'unmasked' character - GOOD LOOK.

the thing about questioning how truthful this persona is...how"real" are any of his personas? actually, I don't think that they are fictitious. I see Patrick (and maybe all artists) as people trying to make a comprehensive guide to the human experience."One man in his time palys many parts" and all that...it's theatre, but theatre grows from reality.

This persona thing: We all knew that with a new album Patrick was going to be a new persona. I don't know why everyone is so hepped up about it, it was just a case of which kind of route he was going to take. Fair enough, he does seem to be launching himself into this one with a bit more vigour, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a part of him and his new album. No one questioned it when TMP came out. Did they?
As for the vid, we know that he did it on his Bandstocks budget, and directed it himself. It was never going to be perfect first time, eh? I still love it.
However, the uncensored video is something i'm not that keen on seeing! Haha. Maybe

No one questioned it when TMP came out. Did they? ha. they totally did. there was a big hooha then from the witw-romanticists about the sparklier, happier patrick, and there was a big hooha before when bubbly, 19-year-old patrick settled down and got organic for witw. this is something that is pretty constant with the wolf fandom. he gains fans through new experiments, and he loses them at the exact same time. it's just how things work.

Patrick Wolf. Where have you gone, and who got you into bondage in the states? Everyone understands that patrick is a persona on stage and through the albums but I think the concern is that this new persona is a bit off the beaten path. TMP was different from wind in the wires and lycanthropy...but lets examine it. In Lycanthropy he was a wild boy with dreams and heartache, wind in the wires he was growing with angst and sadness, the magic position he blossomed with youth and color....what shall we expect from "the bachelor" now? I think he's experimenting and getting publicity through this vulture music video...it seems too trashy for him. Patrick always had this elegance to him, vulture made him look like a cheap 80s pornstar. However, the more i listen the more the song grows on me...although I cant say the same for the video. Many of you have said it made you feel a bit awkward, I agree. I must admit I always wanted to see a little more of patrick then possible, but this was just too much. It was less sexy and more trashy. I really hope he doesn't stick to this look much longer...and i hope the rest of the album sticks true to the patrick we know and love.
I know he must portray a persona...but I always felt his best one was the one he showed in Accident and Emergency...playful, sexy in the strange way, but still giving you that little bit of something that keeps him on your mind
sincerely -james

i can see how you think it's trashy, but i'm sure he's just having fun and if that is in a trashy way it doesn't bother me too much. i'm very sure the album is going to be lots of the patrick we know and love but just evolved some more, as with every album. edit: i hope it doesn't come across that i'm one of those kind of fans that will love patrick wolf even if he's killing babies or something...not that he ever would.
