www.the-fly.co.uk/words/features/4608/first-listen:-patrick-wolf-%E2%80%98the-bachelor%E2%80%99I came across this today, and having heard the album myself, I find some of the things they say quite strange. For example: "Hard Times After an intro like ‘Kriegspiel’ you’d be forgiven for expecting this track to leap right out and grab you, but this is Patrick Wolf, so expect the unexpected. ‘Hard Times’ is another heavily instrumental track which starts with the sounds of a distorted radio before a sinister violin riff backed by muted guitar kicks things into action. If you listen closely you can hear a choir singing very faintly but that and the drums are firmly in the back rows for this song." Hard Times? Instrumental? What? Edit: All I can fathom is that they've heard a version of it without the main vocal line? And also: "Theseus There are not many acts that can wait until track 12 to introduce guitars into the mix but then again there aren’t many artists with Patrick Wolf’s instrumental range. ‘Theseus’ throws together Elliott Smith style strumming, jangly sitar and operatic strings to produce a song which is rich in sound and vast in flavour." a) There's already been guitars before that (they even said so themselves) b) There's not really much guitar in Theseus (if any), it's ukulele! There's many an odd point in that article...

There's only going to be dulcimer in Theseus, isn't there? I thought that was Patrick's original plan, anyway. I don't think it's ever been played on a ukulele.

I used to think that, but he said at Candlelit Matinée it was written on dulcimer, so why would he put it on ukulele after? Oh well, no need to worry, really

He transposes all the time. My favourite version, is just ukelele.

theres an old radio session where you can tell its on uke, but from the snippets from 7music and amazon, it sounds a whole lot like dulcimer, my dad used to play one so ive had it floating around my head for a long time....

this is so wrong and badly written, it's like it's been written by a child who's just written things as they hear them in boring english.

Sounds like they listened to the first 10 seconds of each track and wrote a review from it xD

Ah yes, I was clearly trying to be clever by saying it was clearly ukulele, and I was clearly wrong.
Shot myself in the foot there... oops!

He transposes all the time. My favourite version, is just ukelele. Well he (very) occasionally transposes, but in this instance you mean 'transcribe'.
