Ok, so the shortlist is being announced tommorow for the mercury prize. Whats the chances of The Bachelor making it on there? I guess it's pretty slim, but theres a small hope . If it was to make it on there, we'd probably see a nice rise in sales of the album. x x

Everything crossable is crossed. After Laura Marling lost out last year, I kind of feel like the Mercury prize owes me a little...

Anything and everything crossed, double crossed and crossed once more for good measure.

that would be awesome, finally some deserved recognition for Patrick. i remember last year, i was a fan of Elbow, and once they did win, so i noticed when it was like they became superstars or something

It is a pretty poor list to be honest. Bat For Lashes should win it easily.

Fuck can patrick sound more petulant? Four successive albums snubbed by a prize that's supposed to recognise alternative music? I think he has a right to sound a little sulky. My (figurative) money's on La Roux to win. Opiate of the masses and all that.

The lack of nomination is a poor decision. You have to wonder why....

Although the Bachelor shows far more innovation than most bands that have been nominated (Glasvegas? What?) I think Patrick's comments were a little over the top and cringeworthy :/

he seems to be disappointed...I would probably react in a similar way...

Sure he was disappointed, but he was insinuating that Mercury were discriminating against him, which to honest, is pretty unlikely.

he's just butthurt. i would be questioning, too - every time the mercury prize comes around, there's whispers of patrick being nominated and then it never materialises. he must be pretty crestfallen. yeah, he sounded indignant about it... i suppose it's easier to blame an outside influence. god knows we all do it enough before we look a little closer to home for an explanation. in reality, it's the state of the music industry. patrick admits he isn't media trained. he's not the marketable product that the industry thrives on. (eta: and i'm not saying that's a bad thing. i love that he's not media trained/a marketable product. he's simply patrick, and that's what i adore.)
