Ugh, so lovely, Zicole.
I wish I could dress like that.

I am wearing giraffes and unicorns and glittery things, but not exactly patrick wolfishly.

big laughs and hijinks. How fucking pathetic. What the hell happened to this board?!?! Did nobody read the Observer Music Monthly a few weeks ago? Patrick Wolf dresses like a rent boy. This is not the way that everybody else should be. Good lord. Things are magnified and exaggerated for the stage, such as make-up and costumes. It doesn't mean you need to run around in broad daylight like a pretentious arsehole. It isn't the 19th Century anymore.
I'm a bit late to reply to this, but I laughed in dizzy shock, and I haven't been around to witness the demise of society, clearly. Dear dear.

I must say I have never seen a rent boy in gingham. it's a bit wholesome don't you think? although I suppose it could be some sort of ironic statement.
call me optimistic but I like to think that no-one is so stupid that they wouldn't make some sort of differentiation between stage costumes and everyday-wear, I was looking at some of the pictures here and what people have been saying and they all seem like a toned down version, you know, taking inspiration from what you like, a neck scarf here, a sparkly belt there, maybe some braces or a polka dot shirt. that doesn't sound like a crazy rentboy-esque stage show wandering around the streets to me... that sounds like a night out in Camden, or disco Little House On The Prairie.
pretentious arsehole is in the eye of the beholder don't you think?

Oh man, I'll be careful the next time I'm walking the streets at night. Don't want to be mistaken for a Hitler Youth rent boy from the 19th century.

I understand that there is a difference between stage and everyday life, but I don't think any person should have to limit themselves from what is merely a little fun. I think relating it to a whore is far out of bounds. Besides, Patrick said himself, I don't remember the exact quote, but it was about dressing up for yourself and to make you feel good. So ultimately, I don't understand how that is wrong.

So ultimately, I don't understand how that is wrong. I can't give exact quotes but I know Patrick has also said that people shouldn't imitate him but find their own style etc, and that people who ape his style freak him out a bit. I dunno why I'm saying that really, while I applaud Ceylan actually *gasp* expressing a strong opinion, I don't have a problem with this thread. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be going from the title. I really dislike Patrick's image during The Magic Position era, I don't think Patrick is going for this but it seems to self consciously wacky and scenster-esque. I dunno like some Nu-rave kid on speed has fallen into a charity shop and just picked out clothes at random without actually looking at them.

I quite like the magic position patrick actually, all crayola and bright and glittery. I think it goes with the album, which at the time of writing matched his mood. well anwyay, people's opinions on what patrick's currently wearing are neither here nor there. I personally don;t see the problem with this thread, it's not as if people are actually dressing AS patrick. i took the title to mean "post pictures of yourself in outfits you deem interesting"

Yeah and certainly I am not saying that everyday I wake up and look for ways to imitate his style, that is indeed creepy. And I don't want to be Patrick Wolf either, he inspires me but I am my own person. I don't know, I guess I just wanted for this thread to be some lighthearted fun because obviously everyone here looks up to him, even his strange sense of fashion.

I think the thread's fine, just the title that's a bit off. When I saw it at first I thought, 'Oh god, this is going to be hilarious'. But everyone looked nice...creatively dressed but not embarrassingly so (Which I have definitely been guilty of in the past)
Dress like a rent boy if that makes you happy, not because it makes Patrick Wolf happy. Doesn't mean to say you don't genuinely like some of the things he wears and can't take inspiration from it. That's what fashion is all about, copying people. Just not to extremes. You don't want to end up like that Big Brother wench who I can't remember the name of, who actually wants to be a carbon copy of the scabbiest woman in the world.
