Most hilarious thing on TV. Japanese people falling over on giant obstacle courses dressed like idiots. I love it, i big laughs and hijinks at that i tell you. Anyone else like it? Best one: Takeshi's castle greatest wipeouts (apparently) www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4Frqh6nARE

Takeshi Kitano is a fantastic actor who's been in some awesome films, ergo I find it slightly disconcerting that this is what he's best known for in the west.
Having said that, it's very fucking funny.

Craig Charles detracts from it quite significantly but it is really quite hilarious. Gets a lol every time. Takeshi Kitano's great and Zatoichi is an outstanding film

I love Zatoichi long time. And Battle Royale was on Film4 last night (followed by its vastly inferior, Takeshi-less sequel) - wonderful film that got a lot of negative press from the usual outlets (Daily Mail/Express and other such scare-mongerers) who didn't actually pay attention to what was being said in the film and completely proved its point. I adore the irony of films that are making a point on society's reaction to violence getting a thrashing from the rags for being, well, violent.
(I didn't word that sentence very well, apologies.)
I also apologise for going off topic here, but I just remembered how the Korean film Oldboy was blamed for the shooting at the university in Virginia a few months back, simply because the shooter was Korean. Like the film. And some hack had obviously come across a few screenshots on Google of people in the film with guns. And then there was an article written by that cnut Fergus Shanananadingdong in the Daily Mirror about how Quentin Tarantino was worse than Genghis Khan because apparently Reservoir Dogs has more beheadings and disembowelings than Khan ever subjected his enemies to. I emailed him to make the point that if he'd watched Reservoir Dogs he'd know that there are no beheadings or disembowelings whatsoever in that film (and to compare a film-maker to a murderous despot was, to say the least, very fucking stupid), but he was probably too busy choking on his own rage at society going to hell in a handcart to read it.
SORRY! I enjoy going off on one. Back to the thread.

The greatest obstacle of Takeshi's castle (or XMC or something here, I think) is obvs the 'nards of doom' part of the blue dungeon.*
*american dubbing has degraded much from the show, methinks.

I saw it once with someone dressed up as Goku from Dragonball Z.
That was fun.

OH MY GOD.
Basic cable sucks so hard. I miss this show lots. My younger brother used to tape some episodes, actually. I'll have to dig through the old VHS cabinet and find some. I mean, seriously. For us, this show provided some of the rare family quality times together that were actually ENJOYABLE.
And I actually love the American dubbing, that's pretty much what makes it so hilarious. Captain Tennile. Hahaha. And that one host who was always horny... man this show is good. I think my favorite competition is the one where they have to run across the water on the little rocks, and some float and some sink...

OMG!
When I was younger I watched it on tv!!
But it was all jokes. I mean... People didn't translate what the original said. They just made jokes. And the name was changed. It was "Humor amarillo" (Yellow humour)... no comments.
Also, I liked watching it. hahaha

Takeshi Kitano is a fantastic actor who's been in some awesome films, ergo I find it slightly disconcerting that this is what he's best known for in the west. TBF, i knew him from his films. Then once when it was watching it i looked really close.. and saw it was him. Good way to start. I love him and his lazy eye. I know what you're saying about Oldboy. I was angry when i read that. Park Chan Wook is a great director. Why is it they blame Asia for violence but not look much closer to home. And the fact America doesn't seem to connect that their gun lovin' ways are to blame also.

I swear this show is on 24 hours a day on Challenge TV - which means there's always something to watch.
Actually I was having an argument with my brother over what the roller things are made of. He says wood, but I say they have to be made of foam or polystrene or something otherwise they would be many many more deaths.
