I used to have a pretty severe kynophobia (a phobia of dogs). I had numerous nasty episodes with dogs when I was a child and that's why I learned to be afraid of them. cute and small ones were okay, and even big and calm ones on a leash, but if I saw a dog 1) running free 2) running free, barking and being angry in general 3) just being calm but unleashed somewhere I totally freaked out. I started crying and panicking and everything and had there been a tree nearby, I would have climbed up there immediately. if I went to my friend's house I always had to know beforehand whether they had pets or not. if the answer was "yes, we have a dog", I started sweating and thinking of an excuse of not going there or just staying in my friend's room all the time. it was horrible, it really restricted my everyday life.
I've gotten over this phobia pretty well but even these days if I see somewhere a dog which isn't on a leash, I start panicking inside. I'm pretty good at hiding it though.
so people, if you have dogs, KEEP THEM ON A LEASH FOR F*CK'S SAKE. there are some people who don't like dogs running free.

^ Well, with this, I have to say that it would be unfair to keep a dog on a lead all the time, because then they wouldn't get enough proper exercise, but most people stick to dog areas anyway, like the park and beaches, so that's fair enough, surely? Just avoid those kind of areas?

Sorry, I forgot about trucks on the highway. I have spasms when I have to pass them.

merope, you could ask them to keep the dog in a room.
it really is rude when people don't have their dogs on leashes. it's required at most parks and beaches. you never know what dogs can do. and when people don't pick up the dog poop. this is a real problem in my neighborhood. i've yelled at people from the window "PICK UP YOUR DAMN POOP! NOT IN MY LAWN!"

Well, in the UK it's different, I assume... Dogs have mostly free reign.

I used to be scared of speaking to people on the phone too.
I eventually got over it when this guy kept calling me, even though I kept telling him not to. And I just got used to it.
I still don't like talking on the phone except to people I know really well. I hate that you lose a massively important part of communication. Plus I'm kinda incoherent a lot of the time.

placetobe, I'm well aware of those dog areas. of course I won't go near them. unfortunately some people can't be arsed keeping their dogs on a leash in public places e.g. beaches, parks etc. where dogs must be leashed. some people are also very allergic to dogs and will have a terrible reaction if they just see a dog somewhere near.
and for the record: I live in the (capital) city, not on the countryside. you can't just go downtown and let your dog running free. :/

it bothers me when people yell at me because they can't hear me thinking that i surely can't hear them. although, a lot of times i cant. i think music is killing my hearing. sometimes my ears hurt after concerts or listening to my ipod for too long.

I've got an embarrassing case of belonophobia.
Even the thought of needles makes me physically ill.
Last year I had to get many blood tests, and that was certainly interesting.

I hate hate hate hat hate ketchup touching my skin YAAAACK I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONY PERSON WHO HAD A KETCHUP PHOBIA!!!! i can't even pick up the bottles, it makes me gag My soul sister! I can touch the bottles, but I must always be really really careful not to spill it to my fingers etc if I put it to the food, which I rarely do. I often have to put it to my little brothers food though. Every once in awhile I spill it because in my mothers house the bottles are always left upside down in order to get the ketchup put easily... AND IT COMES OUT POURING AND GAHHH nooo

he's crying because the bottle he was suckling from has been broken. he then continued to wreak vengeance with a certain type of hatred against the offender. pikachu ftw! sorry this consumed about 3/8 of my childhood.
