This is a banner from the bottom of the BBC homepage. Does anyone else find this rather odd. It's presented like a BBC3 program... Or some kind of motivational "Come On Alan!" for a world record attempt or the like. I don't know if this warrants a new thread, just thought it was a bit weird...

Yeah, that is completely bizarre. Like a sort of 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here' thing. I maybe would have expected it from ITV, but the BBC?

Possibly a reality TV Show in order to compete with BB?

Maybe! Except we can't evict him which is a bugger.
Who's the bigger villain? Charley or the Palestinian gunmen?!
I shouldn't really be joking about this. The whole thing is a bit wrong.

Yes I definitely find that strange.
Especially as he's in captivity and presumably hasn't given permission for his image to be used?
It might be less weird if it was a sort of "Click here to find out more about this story" thing. As it is it looks like some kind of twisted record attempt in the style of David Blaine.

As I read it all I can hear is that Geordie bloke...

I wonder what he'll think when/if he sees it.
On the one hand, there's a big effort and fuss being made to save him. But on the other hand it comes across as vaguely exploitative.
Who knows.

el pisstakio? that's a wee bit sick Not really. Why's it so strange that this man's employer's/family want to keep his plight in the public eye when the McCanns are doing everything they can to ensure the public don't forget their daughter is missing?

That 'flyer-ish' thing is a bit strange, it is like it's advertising a charity event he's doing or something, like their showing off how long he's been there. Of course their not but it's a wierd way of doing it if you know what I mean...

It reminds me of the Big Brother countdown. I also fail to see a point in it.

i kind of saw the banner as a sort of reminder that he's missing?
i really do hope he returns alive though.

i don't know. i think it's a way to support him, to show they are hoping for him, and that the captors ARE in the public eye. something like that.

If I hadn't heard about him on the news today, I probably would of thought it was an advert for a Tv show or something!
