I want to make some music on my laptop. I need a drum synthesier program. Oh, and a program to replicate pedal sounds when I plug my guitar straight into the PC would be great.
Any suggestions?

Hi. Been into this stuff for years now. There are various things you can download but my advice, certainly initially, would be to keep it simple Therefore, I suggest you go out and buy a copy of 'Computer Music' magazine. Not for the mag itself (although it can be very handy) but rather for the fabulous DVD attached. It contains - amongst other monthly treats - the 'CM Studio'. This is a collection of apps including a host sequencing prog, a couple of excellent drum machines, Vocoder, pedals, and much more. All excellent quality too! The mag will cost you £5.99, from WH Smiths, so, go grab one, and I will be here to help if you get stuck.

i got ableton live last week, which is pretty sound, especially for composing stuff and working on ideas. It's only 469 euros to download, and 549 for the box. But it's free delivery! So go get it!
but nah, seriously, torrents. Or just try the demo. But it's good if you're just starting. I used to have logic but it was a bit mind mind boggling.

Torrents are indeed the way forward!

torrents always took about 759683476 years for me to download and gave my computers viruses
so i gave up on them.

Yeah sometimes it's a bit crap, but ableton live for example downloaded in less than an hour. And you can find a lot of old classic records which I never get around to buying because I'd prefer to spend my money on current artists. Plus I have me a mac after some idiot stole my lame, virus ridden shitbox of a laptop. So tis all rather good really.

I'm guessing it's running Linux, then? The good thing about that is it's all free. But none of the branded stuff. I'll browse about... Edit: I remembered bookmarking this. By what I've read it's a Linux OS based around recording. It can probably run other linux apps as well, but I didn't read too much into it. Sounds interesting though. www.soundonsound.com/sos/Feb03/articles/linuxaudio.asp

Much more likely to be windows. ... and as I said earlier, just buy CM magazine and have all bases covered.

No, prick. Before you make a post next-time, read the post I was talking about. I presumed Linux as he said "Is there anything for IBM". If he had specified windows then I would've suggested something for windows. Don't get all uppity just because you're an adbot and no-one's paying attention to your posts. Aside from me, of course...

Sorry pea brain. . But IBM can cope with Linux, windows and anything else you wanna throw at it. See? *Tip of the day - get some nous on what the hell you are talking about before throwing insults around * Meanwhile, er. "Adbot"? Is this 21st century paranoia? Dear me.

Of course I'm aware of what IBM can do. I've used Thinkpads for most of my life (albeit they are lenovo branded now). You see, when people are talking about OSs in general they generally specify what which one. If he had said "have you got any software for Windows" then most definitely, I wouldn't have started talking about Linux. But since Windows is about as much of a household name as you can get I expect people to specify when they're talking about it. Linux, of course is less so. Do you see what I'm getting at here? Oh and IBM struggle to support Mac OSs the majority of the time, just so you know what you're talking about. The architecture is just too different And "pea-brain"? Hahaha... etc.
