Patrick was absolutely amazing at the Borderline tonight. It was the best time I have seen him. He was gallant, strong, bold. He played on a baby grand piano, had a drummer, and for the encore had a violinist and a cellist on stage with him. He played a good hour-long set, playing everything (apart from "Apparition") off Wind in the Wires, Paris, the Wolf song, Pigeon Song, London, Souveniers, Penzance, and a short song I didn't recognise. One of my favourite points in the night was when he dropped his ukelele, lost his plectrum, and his lead fell out before confessing he isn't as classy as he likes to make out! He spoke lots between songs and explained the stories behind them and was generally very charismatic. The best bit really was how great the crowd was. The times I've seen him before there have been people chattering in the background, talking through songs etc, but tonight the venue was packed to the rafters with people who really wanted to be there. There was this magical awe-filled silence, broken only by laughs and applause. Patrick was genuinely moved by it and told us that we were the best audience he could ever have expected. I got an absolute ton of beautiful pictures. Please enjoy: www.abstractboy.co.uk >> rock photography p.s. they had the album for sale at the merch stand. The linear notes are beautiful. Be very excited!
