Hi,
I have been posting on the board for a couple of weeks now, but not introduced myself yet... so... hi..
I have been a fan of Patrick's for about a year or so... I stumbled across the forum when I was looking for ukulele tabs... yes, i play the ukulele! You all should too! Get one now...
I have recently started a forum for the uke... beginners to advanced are all welcome... or even if you don't play at all... I am sure we can convince you...
My link is below...

The baritone is much more versatile (in my opinion) than a soprano and for an entry level uke we are talkin three times the price of a similar soprano (there is a hell of a lot more wood in a baritone). I brought my beginner's soprano from ebay for £18.95 inc. P&P... which aint bad... you couldnt make one yourself for that price... there are some downsides though, the top is a bit dished under the string tension (as there is no bracing) and the neck angle is slightly wrong (meaning that the strings are not parallel with the fretboard)... it still plays fine though, it is just made very cheaply, the tuners aren't brilliant though which means you have to retune every 15-20 minutes or so, but they can be tightened with a screwdriver (and besides, the uke has never been renowned for its ability to stay in tune for a long time)... if you fancy playing the uke though, the soprano is the place to start (unless you got some more money!)
As for lessons, dont bother with them... the uke is easy enough to play... I play guitar too which made it even easier for me to pick up another stringed instrument... all that I had to get used to was the chord patterns... you could easily teach yourself in a couple of months or so... just find some chord charts on the net (there on some links on my forum) and get learning (it cant be that hard, I taught myself guitar anyway)
Go for it... and sign up to the forum.. thanks

Hello hello!
I'm a midlander too, and a baritone uke player. Well, I will be once I learn the damn thing, I am an exceptionally slow learner!

Yeah cool, you are only one hours drive from me!...
You should come the acoustic nite here in stoke and play your uke live with me! The Railway House goes down a storm! ;D
