I admit, I still haven't read the books. And right now I'm not so sure if the story interests me enough to have a go at the books. I'm making my way through Season 2 at the moment and every time I see Joeffrey I want to hit him or worse...^^

I want to love the series (because what other epic fantasy with this kind of budget is there?), but I can't stand half of the characters and a lot of the time it's more of a medieval soap with explicit bits thrown in. The GOOD episodes however, are mostly really good. I haven't read the books, but I've read enough fantasy (if anybody's interested, I'll recommend THESE. The "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn" series is one of absolute favourites. Haven't read his other books, though.) through the years to know that I won't be getting enough out of these massive books to bother spending half a year on them. Still, good enough for a watch-through on TV. /t

oh Sue you should give the books a try! Jeoffrey hasn't his own chapters (well at least not in the books I've read yet... ) and many things are different/better in the books, but I still can enjoy the show. (And the sex scenes are often much less explicit XD ) The only minus I see, is that sometimes you're totally into someones storyline (f.e. Arya's) and then it's the next chapter and you find yourself with another character at a geographically totally different place with different secondary characters. But the only storyline I don't find THAT interesting (yet) is Jon Snows'.
