Frida Kahlo and Henri Rousseau... well that makes me think of something very colourful, the jungle and a slightly surreal landscape. Bruntel's work seems also refreshingly non-mainstream and daydreamlike, so I don't think it will be as ehm ... commercial like The City. Oh and look I found something, he thought of "The Return of the Native" by Thomas Hardy when writing House. www.gigwise.com/features/62043/Patrick%20Wolf:%20InterviewApparently one of his favourite books. Haven't read it, although I'm really into Thomas Hardy, but I've seen the movie ... it's very sad and dramatic ... well, typical Hardy stuff. Well, I already love the song, hope the video won't spoil it for me

Because you can hear it? I don't understand the questionnnnn Sorry to confuse. The only version I've heard is the one in journal 9, and the only sound I can hear at the start of that is the roar of the audience. Is it in the live shows, or did you get an exclusive sneak preview? /t

The full studio version of House has been on the internet for a few weeks, I suppose it must be because, as the next single, promotional copies have been sent out.

HMV has 6th June for the 7" vinyl. Which makes sense, if they want to give the song 2 weeks to make an impact before the album.

I've heard the leaked final version too. It's really really good. One of Patrick's best vocals for sure - slightly different on the chorus from the live versions - lovely string work, and a perfect ending. Only things I don't like are the snare drum (sounds sequenced) and the arrangement for the last verse, which bearing in mind the 'mortality meloncholia' angle, I feel there could have been some thinning down in the arrangement for effect (that snare could have been lost for a few bars at least). All in all though, great job, and his best single in years.

On the live version I thought the line was "I love the way the conkers fall, smashing on the southwark stone". Which made sense ... but it sounds different in the studio version.
