so people mention beirut occasionally on the final fantasy/o-palz thread but i think they/he deserve(s) a thread of their/his own. there doesn't appear to be a prominent one.
i say beirut when i mean zach condon.
and i feel like it's very crucial to say EVERYONE GO LISTEN TO ELEPHANT GUN IF YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN INTO BEIRUT YET I DON'T KNOW HOW I SPENT LIKE SIX MONTHS ONLY LISTENING TO FLYING CLUB CUP
i love beirut though does anyone have anything contentious to say about them? maybe we can joust or something?
*edited cause i forgot zach had a h

pretty sure i made a thread ages ago but no matter. i'm seeing them live in august, although i'm not as keen on them as i once was, hopefully it'll be good. if you'd posted this a couple of years ago you would've gotten a hilarious gushing respose from me but sadly those days are gone.
zach is still pure stunnin bytheway though

I'd like to say that I saw them* last year, and it may have been my favourite show I have ever been to, ever. EVER. Here is a video [not mine] that possibly explains why, it was the only song during the show that the crowd sang to, and when everyone starting singing it was pure magical bliss:
*When I say "them" I mean "Beirut" and I am perpetually unsure whether this is the correct thing to say.

Search out the unreleased Realpeople album The Joys of Losing Weight. It's along the lines of the Holland EP, so if you like that you'd like it as well.
Also... ummm?

i'm seeing them live in august, although i'm not as keen on them as i once was, hopefully it'll be good. WHERE? UK tour, what!? I love Beirut so much, one of my absolute favourite.... bands/artists? haha. My favourite songs are 'After the Curtain' (which has been listened to 115 times hahahaoh dear), 'Forks and Knives (La Fête)', 'Scenic World' and 'The Gulag Orkestar', and of course Nantes and Cliquot, what are everyone elses? And also 'My Night With The Prostitute From Marseille' which I love and is technically Realpeople, which leads me onto Victoria's post - could you direct me toward the old Realpeople album leak pretty please?

Florence I have absolutely no idea where I found the leak! I'd imagine someone would know on the Beirut forum... sorry! It was just so long ago that I got it.
Actually! It might have been on this forum, in the YSI thread? Possibly?

Beirut for me means a lazy summer holiday. In other words: The music is wonderful. I'd have to thank Brendan from Alaska in Winter, since Zach was a guest player for Alaska in Winter and it's only because of that that I discovered Beirut in the first place.

Beirut are really lovely. It is so much fun to listen to their music. European tour in autumn. I'm thinking about going to Amsterdam as they're not playing in Germany and the venue in Amsterdam is just amazing.

And also 'My Night With The Prostitute From Marseille' which I love and is technically Realpeople Oh LOOK, I said all this a year ago, and two days ago I saw them live and it was THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED. They played all these songs apart from Forks and Knives and Cliquot - which was a shame because Owen was actually there, but oh well. You should've seen my face when they started 'My Night...' I was so happy the whole way through the set. zach is still pure stunnin bytheway though I SECOND THIS. Also, I haven't heard the whole of The Rip Tide yet, and I probably won't bother downloading until it's released and I can buy it, but I have heard four or five songs from it (including East Harlem and Santa Fe live :+ ). From what I can tell, The Rip Tide is better than anything Beirut have done before. SO GOOD.

I've been a bad dog and downloaded the leak... The Rip Tide is amazing... Amazing! At the same time it sounds a bit strange (to me), because it has a new sound which is basically what you'd get if you distilled all the previous Beirut albums and added a tiny bit of 60's pop yet it's still hard to pinpoint exactly what has changed.
I have to admit that I thought they (he) were done for after the magnificent Flying Club Cup album, but this is just as good. If a little bit short. Let's hope for an EP.
I love Payne's Bay and Vagabond!
