This Weather is an incredible song - that nagging phrase on the viola is amazing, it adds a real sense of urgency to it.
I grew up on the North East coast so can completely understand how terrifying it can be to be caught up in a storm at sea. Patrick is one of the few artists I can name who has a real idea of how to represent elemental forces in his work.
Ghost Song is particularly wonderful as well, and reminds me a lot of State of Emergency by Bjork. Incidentally, I was thinking about this the other day and realise that Wind In The Wires has a lot in common thematically with Bjork's third album Homogenic.

Incidentally, I was thinking about this the other day and realise that Wind In The Wires has a lot in common thematically with Bjork's third album Homogenic. I think Bjork and Joni Mitchell are the only people who's influence I can really hear in Patrick's work - the massive percussion on 'Tristan' reminds of Bjork's 'Human Behaviour', and 'Land's End', of course, reminds me of a cheerier Joni... (My boyfriend, however, did point out the similarities in theme between Wind in the Wires and Tori Amos's new album, The Beekeeper - Tori lives in Cornwall, a lot of her songs are West Country inspired, she uses a fair bit of maritime imagery, and there's also a variation on the themes of 'Eulogy' in the title track and 'Toast'...) Cheerio, Michael. xxx

Land's End. i really cant get enough of it. it makes me so happy. i love the lines: "Darling, when will you ever learn? The grass is always greener, its everywhere you turn." 2. Gypsy King/The Railway House 3. This Weather

I'm really enjoying Teignmouth at the moment. He sounds so much like Morrissey at the beginning, it's almost unebelievable.
But also the pianist havens of This Weather and Wind In The Wires (which took me a while to 'get') are providing huge pleasure.

"Teignmouth" and "Tristan" are my joint-favourites from this album, closely followed by "The Libertine" and the title track.

This is really a great record, one of my favorites.
My favourite tracks at the moment are: The Libertine, Teignmouth, Wind in the Wires, The Railway House, The Gypsy King, Ghost Song, This Weather, Tristan and Eulogy.
That wasn't very selective of me was it? sorry.

Well, I am officially useless at picking favourite songs from records that I love, but I'll have a go.
Definitely The Railway House, Teignmouth and Lands End. It's all incredible though, I think it works so well as a whole, as a complete piece of work, whereas Lycanthropy felt more like a collection of songs.
I am a bit tired of The Libertine and Tristan after hearing them so much, but that will fade!

I find that I love listening to the ultimate quarter of The Shadowsea, Wind In The Wires, The Railway House and The Gypsy King...it just seems to be a little experience..that's quite enough to satisfy my love for Patrick for then.. This ultimate quartet also pops up on Lycanthropy I think...with To The Lighthouse, Pigeon Song, Don't Say No and The Childcatcher...everything about them just seems to be so perfectly set out...it all flows extremely well...but then don't both albums flow really well? I can't decide which Patrick album I prefer... Lycanthropy is more unsettled...like he's unsure where he's going yet..which is good, cause he made it during his adolescence...and Wind In The Wires is more content....like he's starting to relax and just understand...I think that a few of the lyrics on Lycanthropy are a little disturbing....but WITW is just so...happy!

Though I feel that each song on "wind on the wires" has become one of my favorites, it's 'Teignmouth' which is a little bit in front of the others. I really love that album completely.
I got "Lycanthropy" and "The Libertine" only last wednesday on Patrick's concert in Nuernberg (which was amazing). It looks like I can't get "Penzance" and the "Wolf Song" out of my head and my heart. But the other songs will be there very soon as well.

Oh, Penzance is an absolutely glorious song, isn't it!
I haven't been there for years, but listening to all Patrick's recent music influenced by the South West, I want to go back!

geckoI came across Patrick via "the libertine", not knowing, that there was so much south in the album. When I found out about it, I was very very pleased, because I fell in love with Cornwall (leaving Scotland and Britanny on second place - I never believed this could happen) two years ago, when I had a trip to this wonderful landscape. And this made me even more curious about Patrick.
