Hello, I'm Eunice from Seoul, South Korea. A Wolfboarder(niwo) introduced me to this forum I discovered Patrick Wolf through Placebo fans and finally became a fan very recently. I thought Patrick was much older than he actually is(from his vocal). The first Patrick song I heard was The Sun Is Often Out. I guess I would be the oldest member of the forum(I'm 41 physically but mentally I think I'm still 25 lol). I actually wasn't going to introduce myself but as I am stealing magazine scans and other Patrick pictures from the forum, I thought I should at least introduce myself ^^ I have only 3 of his studio albums so far(The Magic Position/The Bachelor/Lupercalia) and have been listening/watching his earlier music/videos on YT and wow! I like him even more! <3 Never seen him live obviously since he never came here and hope to see him one day before I get too old to go to a gig! xD And I have a question about The Childcatcher: is the song autobiographical??? Thank you for reading my lame intro

Hi, niwo! ^^
I guess I could ask this in this thread since I am still kind of not familiar with this forum and this question might bore other long-time Wolfboarders ^^;
The Childcatcher: is it autobiographical??? I read somewhere outside this forum(I don't know where to look to find the answer to my question on this forum -.-) that the lyrics are from Patrick's experience. I do hope not but is it a 'story' or something that really happened to him??

Hi Eunice, welcome to the wolfboard As far I know the Childcatcher's metaphorical (at least I hope it is! ) Thank you, catwolf21! That's really good to hear! someone even quoted a part of (seemingly) an interview so I thought it might've really happened Thank you! I looked into it more, and I think when Patrick was 15 he was in a relationship with someone who was inappropriately older than him, and he uses the song as a metaphor for that. I found this quote (I think the site the original interview was on doesn't exist any more): "Yeah - it was a certain relationship, I was 15 at the time but I was still a child. It wasn't like I was 6-years-old, I was 15. I was still mentally a child and the person knew I was still mentally a child. It's hard to communicate at the time because it's like a complicated thing, but maybe put it into the context of a child being eight-years-old or seven-years-old; it was an easy way of communicating what was actually happening. But then there's also the other side that five years later, like [when I was] 19 I wrote the second part where it comes in with the voice of the person who did the abuse, and it turns out 'Oh come on, you know, it wasn't so much an abuse, maybe you just weren't ready for it. Maybe you enjoyed it?'" I also read here www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/apr/19/patrick-wolf-interview that when he was 16 he was in a relationship with a 39 year old man. So although the song didn't literally happen, I think it's a metaphor for a relationship he was in when he was 15 with someone who shouldn't have been with him when he was still a child. Let's talk about something more cheerful now!
