I've only heard the singles and the uploads floating around tumblr - waiting for my import to arrive at the end of June before I hear the full album - but what I've heard so far is gorgeous. I didn't love House at first listen but I certainly do now. I adore Armistice and my partner and I are playing it at our civil union this coming weekend because it reflects an important part of our ceremony - the reality of love and the imperfect nature of the world around us, etc, etc, very well. Plus it's simply a lovely track. I really enjoyed Time of My Life from the start, it's still my default dance track for the year, even if it sounds like it should be more depressing. I've heard bits and pieces of others (live clips and such) and I'm super excited on the whole.

I listened to "The Days," through tears. Might be one of my favorite songs of his. I'm gonna stop myself there til the cd arrives. I've heard the singles and Bermondsey street live and it's all so exciting.

Slow Motion is perhaps his greatest love song to date - Wonderful strings, Arabic vocals, and a nice nod to Lycanthropy with the 'Casio' Synthesizer.

The Guardian site isn't working for me, it only has previews of the tracks . Maybe it's because I'm in the US?

I don't think I'm going to go to that much effort. I've already pre-ordered the album. I can wait, mostly because it feels like the proper way to hear it first.

awww Bermondsey Street is amazing live too!! Of course I will take you there, have I told you how close Iam from there? Its even within the same area!
The whole album is really beautiful and after all those teaser singles, it feels a lot like a puzzle that is complete for me. Not sure if this makes much sense...

From hearing most of the songs on the tour i wanted to see if there was any differences from the live and the album studio versions. Firstly Bermondsey street is amazing. Beautiful lyrics. I found myself on that street last week and screamed when i saw where i was. Also with a boy, unfortunately just a friend so no kissing on the balls of the feet for me I've had Armistice for some time and it still makes me near tears. The repetition of 'come closer, closer to where we belong' stuck with me for agessss. I was most anxious about The Days & Slow Motion simply because i didn't really like them on the tour due to not being able to hear the lyrics properly. But with the album i can see them becoming a few of my favorites. The Future reminds me of an irish folk tune sitting by a hearth on a cliff in Ireland. Everything is just making me smile on this album. From the artwork to the music it's just astonishing to see the difference to, not only the Bachelor, but also Lycanthropy and even The Magic Position. I love the fact every song produced is different and tells a story. It also made me want to hug william pollock for doing this to him lol It's going to be an amazing summer with this album by my side. XD x

THIS ALBUM IS SO SHORT, i don't say too short, BUT SO SHORT! the only option is listening to it on repeat, repeat, repeeeaaat... :') loves at first listen:
william. just. so much. perfection. in. 50 seconds.
oh.
slow motion.
oh.
armistice.
oh.
the days.
oh.
i also love the future. it's kinda different but i love the lyrics.
so many parts on this album making me teary eyed. i can't even express my feelings in words. i'm so thankful.

okay, I know, I know I've already spammed several threads with my rapture, but I simply can't stop... skip it, just skip it...it'll be a very long and indepth review of Lupercalia I guess... First of all it's so amazing how the songs we already know change when presented in the context of an album. The City is such a great opening track, much better in this context than as a single. You forget about the visual side of it (video) which makes it sound even better. He's done a great job with the arrangement of the songs. It all just fits very well, it's very consistent (you have to admit that, whether you like every single song or not). The lyrics are simple which I think gives them a honesty that makes them sound really mature and (sounds horrible, but I can't think of another word) wise. I'm not a native speaker, so it might sound different to them than it does to me. But to make simple lyrics that don't sound cheesy is always more difficult than to make metaphor-driven ones. So, good job there. I don't get it why so many reviews state it'd be such a typical pop record. I find it still sounds very unique and like Patrick and I don't know, my friends who don't really listen to Patrick certainly don't think of it as 0815 pop music. It's maybe more accessible than his other records, but that's that for me. House - sound still gorgeous although I've watched the video almost too often. love the lyrics! Bermondsey Street - I didn't really relate to it when I first heard it live, but now it is among my favourites of the album. I like the concept of the two couples declareing their love <3 The Future - as you can see in my signature my favourite at the moment! I love the energy and harmony it conveys at the same time...and the female vocals gosh they're so sublime... Armistice - the instrumentation is of course gorgeous and one of the best imo. The lyrics are divine...maybe the best of the album. William - The lyrics are surprising when you hear them for the first time, but it's sweet and somehow almost painfully personal to listen to. gasp. I always hold my breath when I listen to it. Time of my life - It always fought with House for the place best single of the album. Love the lyrics, how the internal fight to overcome depression is portraied. And the strings are soo beautiful... The Days - already knew this song quite well, because of his live performance in Cologne and this nice russian video...I loved it when I first heard it live...I love it even more now...It's so simple and the lyrics are so heartbreaking. And it's a waltz, that's so nice. Don't know why I like it so much for that reason, but I do. Slow Motion - experimental in every aspect and I looove it! Even friends with the electric sounds now, just sounded weird in the portrait but in the context of the whole song...(bla you know what I mean) epic. waiting for the kiss of life. Together - it's all longing and harmony you might think at first, but it has this slightly dangerous/excited vibe to it, which makes it sound really powerful. The Falcons - as I already said a song to set off. Great last track. You just want to go out and ramble about or jump in your car to drive to a place you've always longed to be... and btw: Anthem and Sing are great tracks too. I prefer Sing. You really can hear that he's trained his voice in the last years, because it's almost just vocals and he sounds really, really magnifique!

thehazelwoodfaye: I like your review! I haven't heard all of the songs yet (especially looking forward to William), but I already agree with your introduction

this album is so easily accessible, how did this happen... or is it just because i already heard eight songs of it before (tour, singles..)?? ?

^I think its the album indeed. Today something amazing is happening... I've been posting occasionally Patrick Wolf songs on my wall on facebook (not too much so people get tired too). Today I posted Time of My Life and at least 3 of my friends shared it on their walls saying they love it!! Im grinning like stupid because I know they didnt know him before I started annoying them with Patrick This is so cool, it doesnt happen with other bands I post...

AI haven't heard either but The Future + Slow Motion seem to be fairly popular on here and out on the rest of the web
