board rules - familiarise yourself with the rules here
below are some general rules to keep in mind whilst posting here. some rules have been unspoken in the past, but we are listing them now so as to avoid confusion for newer members and also to refresh the memories of our more established group. please keep in mind that upon breaking a rule, you will be given a warning via PM from an admin. this gives you a chance to rectify your mistake. you may have the chance of a second warning, but if you continually break the rules, you will be banned. the only offence that will get you banned without a warning is posting an upload link to any of patrick's official releases. this rule and all the others will be explained further below.
please remember your manners when you post here. saying please and thank you (especially if someone does something for you!) doesn't cost a thing - if you are nice to others, they shall be nice to you in return. that isn't to say you need to suck up to everyone - it just means that if you disagree with another member, think carefully about your wording and the way you present yourself. aggression is likely to be met with yet more aggression, and that makes this place a very tense and uncomfortable place to be. none of us want that! if you are constantly causing arguments between members of the board, you will be given a warning, and ultimately, if you receive enough warnings, you will be banned from the board.
posts that belittle or insult others directly will not be tolerated. this is called flaming and it is not allowed here. you will receive a warning for this behaviour and if it continues, you will eventually be banned. if you have nothing nice to say, please just don't say it at all. it's a lot easier that way, both on members and on the staff. bear in mind that the staff are not here to babysit you but they will help you out as best as they can if you are encountering problems here.
help others.
if someone is new and asking questions, direct them to this post if they have not seen it already and do not make fun of them. please be sensible and remember that we were all new here at one point.
welcome new members.
it's always nice to have someone greet you and make you feel welcome when you join a new online community!
explore all sections of the board.
we don't bite! yes, this board is primarily about patrick wolf, but sometimes we write about other stuff, too. [/ul]
the official word from team wolf is that mp3s of songs that patrick has released - that is, songs from albums, singles, b-sides and suchlike - should not, under any circumstances, be posted OR requested here. it's all too easy for us to forget that making music is his career, and the money that he makes from selling records is what puts food in his belly, a roof over his head and also funds his next album-exploits - and it's only right that we, as fans, respect his wishes. we and team wolf have no problem with fans sharing live songs and rips of online sessions. if you have any doubts about what you can/can't post, please don't hesitate to contact a staff member via PM.
post questions/comments about patrick's personal life.
patrick has always made the distinction between his person and persona quite clear, so let's not blur or cross that line on his official forum. this forum is about his business exploits - that is, his career, his albums and music, etc. this is not a place for idle gossip or defamatory material, keep that to yourselves. if you somehow have access to private pictures of patrick (see also: anyone related to patrick, william, their friends, etc) do not post them. it is incredibly disrespectful.
register/use multiple accounts.
please, don't make multiple accounts for yourself on this board. you will be found out and you may be banned. similarly, do not use the logins of other users. if you suspect someone of having multiple accounts, let a staff member know.
be a 'troll'.
it's not big and it's not clever. heh, but really now, what do you think you will achieve from trolling this forum? you may slightly ruffle the feathers of our members but you will eventually be banned and you'll have to find another corner of the internet to be a douche on, so don't bother in the first place, okay?
note: a troll is considered to be a user who joins a board simply for the purpose of posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages, with the intent of provoking members into fights or emotional responses. if you witness troll-like behaviour, the best course of action to take is to firstly ignore the user (as in, please do not feed the trolls) and then report their behaviour to a staff member.
be overly lewd/sexual/graphic.
as outlined before, please do not have pornographic/gory images in your avatar or signature, and remember that there are younger members of the forum who don't need to read what you got up to last friday night with you-know-who in explicit detail. this rule also extends to the posting of pictures - keep them tasteful, please.
post unnecessary/repeat threads.
if you are looking to post a new thread, just do a quick check around the section that you want to post in to make sure that what you're about to write hasn't already been said. if you forego this brief check and the content of your thread has already been posted about, you may find that your thread will be locked and eventually deleted.
quote pictures.
it's unnecessary! simply remove the [img] tag from what you want to quote in the thread and you're good to go.
unearth very old threads.
generally, we believe a 'very old thread' to be something that is a fair few pages away from the front page of the section you are browsing. if it was posted months ago, it's old. if it was posted a year or more ago, it's VERY old.
do not add a post to these kinds of threads unless it is absolutely necessary.[/ul]
