haha.. I really don't like the saxon accent and when someone from bavaria starts to talk I don't understand a word. Quite funny that they are serious about calling it german. I live in an area where it's common to speak with rolling r. you could get the impression that we're an american colony. That's what one of my ex teachers said when he moved here. Besides the 'rrrrr' we have our own vocabulary. There even is a dictionary existing for that. My uncle has one. An example: The Devil - Der Teufel(German) - Dr Deibel(siegerländer Platt, the dialect you speak around the city Siegen) Haha ooh I'll have to listen to those now!

I like South African accents! I had a teacher with one (he was from South Africa ya see) and it sounded funky. But Jade you've reminded me, I love African accents. yeah, I feel really fond of some African women (lol such a weirdo) because they speak in such a motherly and loving way and there's just something about it I like listening to. Also when I come across it they are normally loud, confident but super friendly people which puts a smile on my face.

Definately. I want to go to Africa. (I realise this is basically a sweeping generalization about a huge continent, but you know what I mean.)

They sound like they'll take you home and cook you a nice big meal and give you a bed for the night (although you end up living there for six weeks due to her insisting.)

The Botswana accent is fantastic. Yes! I learnt this from #1 Ladies Detective Agency. I'd love to go to Botswana. (Based purely on reading those books) it seems like they have really lovely values and such.

I think we're well known for star trek parodies.. at least in germany. search on youtube for siw (sinnlos im weltraum/senseless in space). Here they discuss coffee, black or with milk?: at 00:50 he says 'woa'. Example(English): it's quite funny, isn't it? The word 'woa' can be used for the 'isn't it?' at the end of one phrase: ''Ist schwer lustig, woa?'(German). I often use it. In the ruhr area you would say 'ne' instead of 'woa'. Ah thanks for that! I laughed far too much at the 'female' impression. Ah I like 'woa'. Oh that sounded lovely thank you! I might have to rip those clips for my walkman and listen when I need cheering up. On the description for the video it talks about 'Higher German' (thankyou google translate)- does German have a High variety then, in the same way that Greek and Arabic do (for example)?

Yes! I assume you saw the TV series (which was so good) as well. I did yes Jill Scott is so wonderful, and the portrayal of Ms. Mak... her assistant was SO accurate too. But wasn't it only short, like eight episodes or something? I remember thinking 'well they need to make more than that.'

^ I agree. On the description for the video it talks about 'Higher German' (thankyou google translate)- does German have a High variety then, in the same way that Greek and Arabic do (for example)? My dictionary says that accents are 'Lower German'. That would make more sense because these accents are kind of a lower quality of standard German. They use different grammar and other pronunciation than High German(=best possible German).

Russian accents are amazing. French accents are delicious, I wish I could get away with putting one on. Instead I settle for a terribly posh English accent because having spent most time in my life travelling and speaking other languages I had a very un-definiable accent, with the occasional Singaporean twang, if there is such a thing, and I decided when I was ten that I loved British accents most of all and proceeded to base my dialect on David Bowie's ways of putting things. I love Mark Ronson's accent. It's enormously seductive. I think he described it as 'dodgy transatlantic' which I rather liked. I'm also very fond of German accents because I've had good experiences with German-accented males. I dislike many American accents and since meeting two New Zealanders that were enough to put you off life itself I really can't cope with too much of them either, but generally I love hearing different accents. I've recently become fond of Scottish accents too. And soft Welsh ones. And Irish ones, fault of Mitchell from Being Human, methinks.

Like this girl . Every woooooord gets streeeeetched and the intonaaaaation is so over dooooone and everything's a questionnnn... I think we call that valley girl? Sorry, I don't know a less sexist term for that manner of speaking/accent. People can be so varied! I have not heard enough folks for some accents to be decided. I'm more drawn to specific individuals' inflection and and pronunciation. I think I am fond of New Zealand accents. I listen to Dudley Benson's Radio New Zealand interviews because he has such a super accent. Irish accents are nice. I may come back to this.

I prefer singular voices as opposed to general accents. Like Michael Flatley, whose speaking voice is beautiful. He was raised in Chicago but is half Irish so I think he has a mixture of the two. Vashti Bunyan's speaking voice is so soothing. Morrissey's can be as well. And Mika! I forgot about him! Lovely voice. Then there's the voices/accents which are just fun, like Cary Grant's.

Aww yay for Manchester, we're usually on the other list I think we call that valley girl? Sorry, I don't know a less sexist term for that manner of speaking/accent. Yeah I did wonder about Valley Girl, but then I wasn't sure if that was based more on dialect (using 'like' or 'dude' or whatever) rather than accent, and it's more the tone and speed that annoys me than the language so I didn't want to be calling everyone valley girls incorrectly.

It may be ethnocentricity, but I am quite fond of proper Canadian accents. Probably because it's not common that people have them here in the city. (although my friends tell me I have the most Canadian accent of anyone they know, which makes no sense to me).
I forget the name of the accent, but the English accent that Gareth Pugh has is quite pleasing to me.
