It's all in the mischievous grin. Mischevious grin? Mischevious GURN, more like. Seriously, he looks like he had a stroke. Tennant is hate. x Each to his own and all that. But I don't know how people can watch episodes like the Human Nature/Family Of Blood two parter, and well a lot of the episodes this series without seeing that Tennant really is a superb actor. I don't know I think he can be intense convincingly and when he's all puppy dog playful I just want to hug him. He's adorable in School Reunion when he's reintroduced to Sarah Jane and K-9. I don't know, he just sucks me in more than any other Doctor to date. I find him totally believable, haha I was going to type "as a human being" but I find him as believable as any two-hearted extraterrestrial who hops though space and time in a police box could be! I've watched pretty much all of series two over the last few days, and to give my own slightly controversial opinion, sorry Michael but I've come to the conclusion that Rose was pretty damn annoying on the whole. Though apparently shes better with Ecclestone so I should really watch all of that series before commenting.

Hmm, I think he's lovely and cute and funny and so on and so on. But you know, WHATEVAZ.
I agree about the Captain Jack hate though. There's one guy you don't really want to live forever, eh? EH!?

Just read today that James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) is going to appear in an episode of Torchwood, he's filming his stint next month in Cardiff.

Just watch THIS: www2.b3ta.com/hawking/Near where I live at the National Museum of Photography and Television (one of the few note worthy places in Bradford to be blunty honest) they use to have a full size replica Dalek, with a mic you could talk into and get it to say anything you want in a Dalek voice. It was ACE. I watched the Ecclestone episode Dalek last night and the one in that is quite cute! When it's little lazer gun droops and it goes "I Aamm thee llassttt Daleeekkk alliivvee" Poor little remorseless, emotionless born killing machine

My friend had a dalek in her front room, one of those things you don't expect at 4am on a mashup flex really.
I made a really good dalek cake once.
This may have already been covered (i haven't gone through all the posts) but - Best Doctor? Blatently Tom Baker. Right?

I'm watching Tom Baker stories like Ark In Space and Genesis of The Daleks at the moment on good old youtube. It might be blasphemous, but cool as he is, I think I might *gulp* think Tennant is the best. I lose geek boy points there! Charlie Brooker said he thinks Tennant is the best as well, and I've honestly never heard him comment on anything in a non cynical/scathing way before.. I need to watch loads more of the other Doctors, I think.. I think Patrick Troughton is under-rated. I like the kitschness (in retrospect) of sixties Who.. but you're right Tom Baker defines the role. I still remember his stories well from watching them on videos as a very young tot indeed.

I love Tennant, I think he's very good, didn't like Eccleston too much though, although he did try to chat up my friends dad.
I love the Tom Baker episodes written by Douglas Adams, what a great combination. And the ones where the clearly didn't have the budget or effects to do a scene, so the doctor just stands there and says what hapenned inbetween scenes. Classic.

You could never recreate it, but I do think the new Who sort of lacks the charm of the cheap as chips, endearingly awful specials effects of old skool Who.
Oh and the new version of the theme tune is horrible! It needs to be a lot more minimalistic than that. It's the best theme tune of all time, an extremely advanced piece of electronic music, considering it was first used around the time the Beatles where doing Love Me Do..

Like the intro, creating an infinity loop by recording a TV, great stuff. And really rather pioneering for the time, my dad remembers hiding when the Daleks came on because, obviously, he's never seen anything like that before.
I also feel the standards of companions has dropped somewhat, I was never a huge fan of Billie Piper, but I really didn't like the whole "Doctor falls in love with Rose" thing they had going on.
And as for the theme tune, well I just agree with you completely.

I mean it was never addressed in the old series but, surely it was no coincidence the Doctor nearly always chose an attractive young female to travel with him? So I guess it was always implied, just in a more subtle fashion. Haha to be honest a lot of the old companions where very Damsel in Distress-ish weren't they? Hardly making giant strides for feminism.

I enjoy the subtlety of it though! it all seemed so much more innocent, and endearing. To even do without the last bit would have been alright, chemistry is to be expected, but you can't MENTION it!
I do agree about the portrayal of women within the earlier episodes, but I plan on counteracting all of it by being the first female Doctor

I do get what you mean, I dunno though the last 3 Doctors (Mcgann, Ecclestone and Tennant) have been overtly attractive young men, so they are therefore bond to be more sexually alluring than say John Pertwee or Sylvester McCoy. I dunno.. actually.. it seemed like the Doctor companion dynamic use to be more of father figure/mentor thing. I dunno, the new sexualised Doctor has pros and cons I guess. Doesn't spoil my enjoyment, but I know what you mean. I mean I think it's only the American TV movie in 1996 when a love interest was actually without a shadow of a doubt present right?

Well, it's got to be one of us. Or Patrick, there's his next album sorted. Songs From The Tardis.
I don't see it as that much of an issue, but I find it interesting that the relationships have progressed from, as you say a platonic mentor type, to one with more obvious sexual undertones, but I suppose that's to be expected from any programme that's had such a long life span, a lot's changed since it began and I suppose they have to keep it appropriate to the viewing audience, give them what they want, and I suppose what they want is a romantic subplot.
As for the American TV movie, I haven't seen it, but now I have something to do instead of revising for that pesky exam tomorrow.

If he had any acting experience/ablity at all of course! (no pouncing about with your shirt off doesn't count as "acting" Patrick!) Bishi for companion? I saw that tv movie when it was on when I was 11, and I wasn't sure about it even then. Remember thinking it was to big budget to be Doctor Who, which is a pretty geeky thing for an 11 year old to think! I don't remember much about it now, bar it has him snogging some woman and it has a little Chinese bloke in it..

He's quirky enough to be a good doctor. Bishi would be a good companion but I wouldn't mid following him around
My friend made a story which involved a love affair between Patrick and the Doctor, put together through photographs, I'll post it up here soon enough if anyone wants to see it.
A little chinese bloke and snogging eh? Sounds like a wild night out for the Doctor.
