What did everyone make of it yesterday?
First The League Of Gentleman, now Ms Daisy Spaced, are they determined to feature representatives from all the great late nineties/early noughties comedy shows?
I always suspected Public School boys where evil! Thanks for confirming my reactionary Marxist stance Beeb, I don't like how you maligned Scarecrows though..

A few things really irritated me about this episode -everyone TOTALLY knew they were going to war - in fact, a large percentage of them wanted it to happen! He is no bloody prophet. -Why isn't his hair all smooth and slicked down proper? It made me sad -Why didn't Martha keep the watch? She's a rather incompetent companion, lemme tell you that right now (cue hand gestures and clicky fingers). But otherwise it was ace! My sister is a huge nerd for Doctor Who and she keeps watching a youtube clip of a Dr. Who trailer and squealing like a stuffed pig - it's quite unnerving.

Everyone thought the war would be the "usual" - good old Tommies marching in, sorting everything out and the war be over by Christmas. Nice bit of character-building action for the lads. Rather than the worst war the British Army had ever seen, fought in trenches through hopeless battles. They weren't frightened or worried, they were proud of the Army and of the country's ability to sort out Johnny Foreigner. By WWII, THEN they were frightened of war, as WWI was supposed to the the Great War to End All Wars.

Yeah, that's what I meant. World War One was probably the most pointless war in history.

I know, the BBC always does period pieces wonderfully, the future episodes are always a bit of a let down.

4 minutes...
[Don't worry, I'm not obsessed and counting down the minutes or anything.]
I hope my 17-year-old brother turns over from the S Club film he is watching before it starts.

That reeked of awesome on so so many levels.
I was reading comments from Doctor Who fans on the net after last weeks episode (haha reading about Doctor Who on the interwebzz, high geekdom) and they were pondering how after having so many scary nasties after him in the past, that the Doctor would choose to hid from the Blood Family in particular, unpleasant as they are. I thought it was very nicely explained as it was actually The Doctor being kind as he knew he would have to dispose of the Blood Family in quite an unpleasant way. The bit where he was imprisoning them was really dark, especially the 'evil little girl in the mirror' bit, talk about the stuff of nightmares! It reminds me of how in that earlier episode where there was only one Dalek left in existence and the Doctor contrary to all logic offered to help it. Very universally compassionate is our Doctor.

I feel sorry for all the little children who will be deeply affected by that whole mirror business for the rest of their lives.
good episode. I will be happy to have sassy-pants doctor back again, though.

It was fabulous. Of course, no actual Doctor/Martha really in next week's ep, but since it's written by Moffat it'll be ace anyway.
My screencaps come from the excellent http://nostalgia_lj.livejournal.com - Nos gives ace sassy comments on her screencap recaps and also wicked meta and crack!fic. Of late, her real triumph has been her comedy macro recaps of Torchwood series 1 and this series of Who so far.

That episode was so clever! It made me brain go "ahhh!" quite a few times, fantastic stuff again and it barely even featured the Doctor himself other than in a cameo role.

Absolutely fucking terrifying. Seriously The number of children's tears that were shed after that final couple of minutes must've been huge...

Luke is right, first Children won't be able to look in the mirror after last week and now they will be deathly afraid of statues.

That was an incredible episode.
Confession time: I'm old. Old enough to remember Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. I can remember hiding in the gap behind the sofa and under the stairs while I watched it in black and white. The one thing that kept me going was that daleks couldn't go up stairs. This is something that's stayed with me from my childhood well into old gitdom.
Tonight's episode is probably going to stay with me, leaving me scared shitless of blinking or turning my back on any statues until the day they seal the lid on my box.
Fantastic stuff.
