I thought it fitting to start a Franz thread here, since I started a Patrick Wolf thread on a Franz board a few months ago. (It was really the party for a while ) I know there was already a thread for this somewhere, but it existed before the formation of this section. So, angular guitars anyone?

I WANT TO HEAR THEIR NEW STUFF NOWWWW.
They were on Austin City Limits just a month ago or so. My mom watched it. SHE DIDN'T EVEN CALL MY NAME TO TELL ME THEY WERE ON THE TELEVISION. I had no idea til the next day. I'm still slightly mad about this...

I love Franz like woah, they're one of the few bands I haven't gradually gone off. I am kind of sort of worried about the new stuff....more synths, less guitars doesn't fill me with excitement. Even if Outsiders was Amahzing (which was mostly due to the drumming. Paul's the most talented musician of the band by far).
I met Alex Kapranos at the Cribs Water Rats gig in February. We were leaping about like pillocks, and halfway through we noticed he was standing next to us, arms folded, taking it all in, looking mega cool. We all high-fived him and then dragged him into the mosh with us. He had a huge grin on his face and joined in to the point where he was probably thinking 'don't start punching the air and doing the handclaps in Wrong Way To Be, Alex my lad, you'll look SUCH a ninny.'
No-one would have cared.
But anyway, he was lovely and utterly charming afterwards.

Not a major fan but they're miles better than any of the British indie bands that broke into the mainstream after them.
Walk Away and Eleanor Put Your Boots On are tremendous songs. Though in general the second album is a snore.

the new stuff that iv heard sounds really good, lots of synths, but you probably knew that already. I heard a revamped version of shopping for blood and it sounded awesome, for me the highlight of the gig a wee while back. The song on hallam foe sounded a bit dull tho. we met them a few months ago at another gig, the low miffs (who are right good). They were dead friendly, though alex apparently fancied my girlfriend *smug smile* x x

I really like the second album a lot, but as a whole I do like the first a bit better because the second isn't put together as well, and it's like half the songs are amazing and then the other half are kinda just 'aight. Every songs good on the first and it flows nicely.
Sarah... If I may quote Bill and Ted here a bit, just 'cause I feel like it, you sound like you lead a most excellent life. *JEALOUS*

Yes I spend every Wednesday evening sacrificing virgins with Marilyn Manson on Hampstead Heath.
I just happen to be quite lucky in regards to getting into some good events where pop stars I fancy loads also happen to be...my life is no more excellent than the next person's. Besides, I live in London, if you spend enough time in Camden you are guaranteed to see some 'celebrity' caner or other down the pub.
Re. the second album - I wasn't disappointed with it at all. The only songs I didn't like on it were Eleanor and Fade Together. I thought Outsiders and The Fallen were two of the best songs they've ever made. The Fallen aside, I did think they made some duff single choices...Do You Want To really doesn't do anything for me.
Shopping For Blood is probably my favourite of theirs, it's pure Sexx.
Ridicule me if you must but I'd probably put their first album in my top 10 of all time.

Franz Ferdinand were the first band I ever really listened to, way back when Green Day controlled the tween masses. I loved them then and I love them now- Alex Kapranos was my first celebrity crush. I was seriously obsessed back then, I think.. But hey, it beats Green Day.
I really liked their first album much more than the second. The first was more edgy, not in an unfinished or underproduced way but in a good wy, like it was more risque or something like that. It was really jerky and sexy and something you could dance to while catching every innuendo.
The second.. Eh.. Not so much. I like it, but it lacks a lot compared to the first.
The fact that you've all met Alex makes me quite jealous.

I had no idea til the next day. I'm still slightly mad about this... Euh, that would bother me too. They seem to always play Austin City Limits now. I can't wait for the new songs either. They sound like they're coming along nicely from the crappy, live recordings of them that I've heard. They might be getting back into their crazy dance vibe, plus a bit more synth (and a cape). Sarah, that must have been a fantastic experience. Alex is so much fun to meet. They were all really sweethearts when I met them. I didn't know about the "revamped" version of Shopping For Blood. Like Clare said, it sounds like the sexiest thing. Is there any way to get a recording of it? xxx arielle

To be fair, they were responsible for EVERY band t-shirt - and every t-shirt sold everywhere - being a horizontally striped (red and black) affair.
I did buy a red and black striped jumper, from the men's section of H&M. Woe.

That is completely true. Far too many skinny lead singers are adopting the red and black stripes, this one time I went to see the Matches and the opening band's singer was wearing one and I was like, "No! That's the Alex shirt! Not cool!" and the people around me were like, "Hey, you're right.."
I look dreadful in stripes, so that little bandwagon was easily avoided.
