Sometimes, I think he does. Of course, really any openly gay person is going to speak about it if they are famous. It's the same with famous black people or famous women. Bring up the oppression. Not like that is a bad thing.. We need visible people to get the ball rolling.

he does have a song called gay messiah
"He will then be reborn From 1970's porn Wearing tubesocks with style And such an innocent smile
He will fall from the star Studio 54 And appear on the sand Of Fire Island's shore
No it will not be me Rufus the Baptist I be No I won't be the one Baptized in cum
What will happen instead Someone will demand my head And then I will kneel down And give it to them looking down
Better pray for your sins Better pray for your sins 'Cause the gay messiah's coming"

Haha I don't like that song musically, but it the lyrics are very amusing.

I love Gay Messiah.
And I couldn't tell Josh's sarcasm in that post, but I figured he knew, since he seems to know everything and such.
There was actually a huge thing in one of his facebook groups and the headline was "Rufus...Gay?" Replies included: "gayer than an April morning," "gay as a swedish meatball," and "gay as christmas" ...whatever those mean.

Blagh. I love Rufus and everything, but thus far Release the Stars seems like a bit of a step backwards. I feel I too need to let it grow.
He's a master, lyrically, though. Peach Trees is one of the songs which actually epitomises that for me, actually; something about, "'cause I'm so tired of waiting in restaurants, reading the critics and comics alone, with a waiter with a face made for currency like a coin in ancient Rome" completely knocks me down.
Also: have I mentioned he fucking hates me, na-na-na-na? Because he really does. Playing at the nearest, crappiest venue ever when I'm on holiday. Garh.

I think his voice is musically death, great "techincal" range, but utterly lacking in emotion, plus you can't make out a word he's singing a lot of the time. I really tried to like Rufus cos I like his musical aesthetic, in fact I can enjoy some of his faster paced songs, but the slower ones where his voice is to the fore= HELL.
I hate how he ruins great songs like Leonard Cohen's Chelsea Hotel and Across The Universe by The Beatles. I think if you take Leonard and Rufus's versions of Chelsea Hotel you have a very good argument how a very limited voice can at times but much more effective in conveying emotion and meaning than a techincally "good" one.

Hm, liked Across the Universe, though.

Ha, well if anyone is truly wondering.. and I hope they aren't because it is obvious.. He has a boyfriend. I am hoping this was one big ball of sarcasm and irony. That bloke is ugly, though...

Just had to bring him up because I saw him last night at the Old Vic and it was absolutely amazing =D Played an amazing long set as well. The only bad thing about it was that me and my friend seemed to pretty much be the only people there who weren't a very posh middle aged couple

I thought it was about time I should listen to him, so I bought Poses on Saturday. I can't really turn it off.

AHAHAHAHA! I'm trying to think of a funny response, but I can't think of one. The ironic thing is that it actually is broken. I have to balance a giant book on top of it so the CD won't fly out.

He's releasing an album and dvd in december for the judy garland shows....it should be good. It was on Channel 4 earlier this year; Rufus! Rufus! Rufus! Does Judy! Judy! Judy! really messed up the formatting of most of the TV listings magazines... I didn't watch it. His version of 'Over the Rainbow' is neither here nor there, and the whole thing lacked the kind of wit you need to get away with that level of self-indulgence. Cheerio, Michael. xxx

Oh Rufus. He's old school, been doing this for a long time and he does it brilliantly. If anyone ever tries to genrefy either him or our lovely Patrick, they'd end up in the same-ish one. Kinda operatic pop rock...electronica on patricks side, they both share the folk thing...
basically, both incredibly talented. if you haven't heard a lot of rufus try:
poses greek song oh what a world this love affair one man guy
and cigarettes and chocolate milk
and then fall in love and just go buy all his albums. he's different and thats a good thing. he sticks to his guns and thats a good thing. he wears fairy wings to shows, incorporates drag, knows how to utilise a french horn, plays the piano beautifully.
rufus= great.

hahahaha is rufus gay...
oh dear
anyway i loooooooooove rufus mcgarrigle wainwright til death.
and as for 'release the stars' there are plenty of good songs on there and obviously i like the album BUT I still think it pales in comparison to 'rufus wainwright' or 'poses' that have really inspiring/inspired tunes/vocals/lyrics on them...
also both rufus and martha are great live, i was lucky enough to see him in sheffield on my 15th birthday (halloween) a few years ago and she was supporting....ah my mothers face when she sung 'bloody motherfucking asshole' was priceless...hahahah
