Is there already a thread for these guys? I didn't find it but I wasn't looking very hard.
Anyway.
They were on the telly just now, and I expected to be way more impressed. In fact, I may even be entirely unimpressed.
It's like. Fairly standard Shoreditch-type shouting-over-bleeping-things. And some seriously pretentious commentary from them to go along with it.
It's all a bit lost on me really. I don't get the hype.
Most of you probably disagree, right?

Nope, the whole use of vaguely afro-centric rhythms is well vaguely interesting, but they don't apply it to anything but the usual formula of mumbling nonsense over tuneless bleepy shite.
Also, the band members are the exact epitome of everything that is slappable about poncy middle class student kids who reckon they're a bit clever and sophisticated.

Hummer used to be a fun song to hear when out, many moons ago. These days they're just rather beige.

I've seen their show two-and-a-half times in the last 14 months (impressive how I managed that, huh..), and I quite like Foals. I've never become obsessed like some of my friends are though. Once was in torrential TORRENTIAL rain, and another time I was hardly concentrating, but the first time I saw them they were lovely. It was a really fun, enjoyable performance, even though I didn't know any of their songs then. I still don't, really. I had some demos 'till my computer died. My favourite Foals song is now The French Open (you can see how far I got with the album). I reckon they are worth liking for that one song. It's funky. This rambling is me defending Foals by the way; they are good. It always strikes me how much prettier and smaller Yannis is in real life. Hummer used to be a fun song to hear when out, many moons ago. These days they're just rather beige. But they haven't had any different songs since Hummer so how can they have become more beige?

Was the torrential rain at Field Day by any chance?! I can't believe how cold and wet it was. I wore a dress and got so cold I asked one of the cleaner people for a bin bag to wear as a rainmac... desperate times! Didn't end up staying till Foals though, I'd seen them before and I preferred to go to Oxford Street to get dry and be fed than watch them again hehe They are good to dance to in clubs though

Hummer used to be a fun song to hear when out, many moons ago. These days they're just rather beige. But they haven't had any different songs since Hummer so how can they have become more beige? What do you mean by that, they've released 4 singles and an album since Hummer. Or do you mean no brand new material? I like them enough. They're honestly one of the better British 'indie' guitar bands I've seen live, although I'm not sure what that says about the British indie guitar band scene. It was a bloody good show, nonetheless. The album's alright; Cassius, Balloons and The French Open are the best songs on it (they made a mistake in leaving Hummer off of the tracklist); the rest is a bit meandering and a little try-too-hard experimental. They make me uncomfortable insofar that their gigs are usually populated with the young trendy fuckers that make me feel self-conscious, but I enjoy dancing to their songs anyway.

Or do you mean no brand new material?. Ah, my mistake, I thought Hummer was on the album. But as the Hummer and Balloons demos were from the same time, and Balloons is on the album (I checked this time ), they're still from the same era, aren't they? There hasn't been a new album; it's all the same.. stuff.

I love Foals though Even though Yanis looks like he is about to eat kittens most of the time, he is pretty sweet, and little, very little. The Ginger Pixie drummer is very good too. They're really fun, over most things, though now at their shows the crowds are violent and it annoyed me, I wanted to watch them, not die but never mind they are great live anyway.

I've only heard Spanish Sahara and another one. It sounds like he's trying to sing a melody but his voice is too weak to pull it off. Antidotes is still one of my favourite albums though
