You know what I find odd about Digital Ash? I can't listen to the album all the way through. EVER. Although, I can listen to the songs seperately on shuffle. Odd. I think the way it is put together bores me/ annoys me.

MY FRIEND TOLD ME ABOUT THAT!!!! And I totally believed it... But we understand that he attended Catholic school, right? Or no? I don't know. But we have concluded that that is the reason for his angst. (We feel his pain here) Jesuit all boys school, but yes. It's some form of Catholic. I don't know much about it.

I'll totally sound terrible here, but I was really among the first Bright Eyes fansites. I think there were one or two others, but they were audio/video/lyric sites more than a gallery, so I thought "hey, I can do that!" I think I started that site in '03 or something. Dude, I totally remember it being one of the only Bright Eyes sites. Props to you. I just saw him live recently and it was one of THE best shows I've ever been to. I've seen him live before, but it was quite disappointing. He really seems like he's gotten it together though and I absolutely love the new album.

I think the way it is put together bores me/ annoys me. Maybe I should try that because I'm not a fan of the album, but I've put single songs on mixes and like it. Though I've brought out my CD and listened lately. I just like Lifted... most.

I think the way it is put together bores me/ annoys me. Really? It's always been my favourite album of his (theirs?). Probably because it was the first one I got but I've always found electro connor to be way more interesting than acoustic connor. But, yeah, Bright Eyes, one of my favourite artists (bands?). I know a lot of people who hate his voice - actually this seems to be the only argument that comes up again me and my fandom - but when you listen to the (ooh pretention ahead) whole package as a band you realise it has its place in the kind of music he makes.

I guess I would say 'his'. He writes just about everything and the musicians change around.

park ave. was one of the best things conor ever did.
I have a bright eyes policy that anything before lifted goes. lifted and after are obsolete.
my conor peak is most certainly letting off the happiness because it's the only album that can be viewed as a whole and it's my favourite for being such an unaccessible lo-fi record.
even the opening track bursts with sincerity.
'cause if i can't learn to make myself feel better, how can i expect anyone else to give a shit?'
he's living in a teen dream world throughout the whole thing, from a depression to a summer romance and eventually a lusty, full-blown love affair. i want my life to be as colourful and warm as that.
growl.

I don't like "sharing" that album - i only listen to it alone and i'm always wary about putting tracks on mixtapes from it. i don't know. i think it's a little bit secret. Ooh I identify. That's kind of how I feel about most early Bright Eyes stuff, as not many people I know are fans of that era. And to a lesser extent Lycanthropy as well.

I'm really fond of Fevers And Mirrors and dislike Lifted... there are a lot of good songs on there, but equal amounts of boring ones. I am however glad to have the EP with Drunk Kid Catholic on, since that song + the b-sides are amazing! I've also got mixed emotions with the new stuff being so... political and overproduced at times. But he's still got some good tunes. /t I love drunk kid catholic!

I like Four Winds a bit too much. I'm debating on whether or not to get Cassadaga. hm... I'd recommend some listening first (hooray for illegal downloading)... I think half of it is really good, but he gets a bit carried away and over political in some songs. The Four Winds EP is a bit ... more tied together. /t

Some Bright Eyes songs are really well written; lyrically anyway. The best song Conor Oberst ever wrote (excluding the charming Space Invaders) is It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends. It perfectly captures the impossiblity of the situation with your ex-lover, when you're trying to maintain a cordial relationship after all the passion and love falls apart. It's heartbreaking, and the way that his vocals unfold into a climax of rage and sorrow as he gets himself drunk to pass out, and forget your face. It's the best song to listen to after a break-up, haha...

I saw him live yesterday. It was great! I believe in symmetry live was so lovely.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I feel each subsequent album has been better and better. I love them all I think but my favourites are definatly Digital Ash and Cassadaga.

*jealous* I hate shepherd's bush and their stupid 18+ limit. I really like digital ash too. Not a big fan of cassadaga, although I havent really given it a chance. I've been listening to Lifted... lots recently. Make War is really growing on me, it's lovely.

It was 14+! But you needed an adult with you I think. I think if you were over 16 you could go alone though. Lifted is another great album, I don't think he's made an album I dislike.

I had tickets for BE's pre-Reading gig in Bristol and they cancelled [noooooooooo]. I was very disappointed indeed. Apparently Conor cancelled UK gigs a few tours back too. Maybe one day I'll get to see Bright Eyes. Lucky devils if you have! x:]
