Bright Eyes = good stuff. Not really in my top top favorites, but very good indeed. I think I just need to be in a certain mood to listen to Bright Eyes, like folklaure said.
I only have the three latest albums, though - I've been meaning to borrow Lifted from a friend for a long time.
I really really love Landlocked Blues and Hot Knives by the way.

...But Everything Must Belong Somewhere is one of his happier songs!
It's really quite cheerful in my opinion actually. Love it lots.

I agree with the above post.
Digital Ash is sublime. Apart from "Theme for pinata". The opening lyric makes me want to die. Method Acting and I don't know when but a days gonna come are awesome I don't really like I'm Wide Awake. Apart from the opening track because I love how much Jim James outsings Conor.

I'm not been hyperbolic when I say Digtal Ash is the worst album I've ever listened to from start to finish.

Haha, I knew you wouldn't be satsfied with the hate deposited in the first post you made in this thread.

I think the reason I hate it so much was I kept waiting for the electro version of Girl From Mars or Burn Baby Burn and they never came!

I love both of those songs. What is it you hate about that album the most? Aside from his voice and lyrics. Which I know you despise with unrestrained fervour.

Seriously I find them so repugnant that he would have to write music so brilliant it entirely rewrites the rule book of contemporary music and be so beautiful that it would instantaneously bring about world peace, for me to overlook the beaten puppy dog "non-threatening boys" wimpish whine and the sixth form poetry drivel that passes for his lyrics content. I guess I wouldn't dislike him so much if he didn't get so much credit for being some sort of great song poet in the Dyan, Cohen tradition which is insane.

I do agree that much of the credit he gets for his lyrics is down to nothing short of ignorance in the case of people who rave about him. And his voice does annoy on occasion. But everything in Digital Ash is so fucking cool. I just love it. I guess someone might describe it as intelligent, though that person is not me.

I am sort of amazed that nobody's mentioned Letting off the Happiness. In my mind that and Fever + Mirrors are in rough competition for best album.
Oh, and Desaparecidos are great, I especially like "Popn' off at the F". Yum.

He has grown into a very lyricist though. He had his bad points throughout his career so far, but he is a good writer. I absolutely adore him, and his voice annoys me sometimes. That's not really the point. Have you listened to the new albums? They aren't about relationships much anymore, if that is what annoys you lyrically.

I do get what's bothersome about his lyrics, and feel that he's often too pretentious, but then again... some songs just have to be, but his best moments are his simpler ones.
I adore stuff like Blue Angels Air Show... just simple and sweet. Or Theme To PiƱata...

Your avatar and name make me laugh everytime I see it.
I don't listen to Bright Eyes nearly as much anymore because it is almost too much for me in some ways. I just get myself upset, but it's not because it's bad. It's all written very well. Yes, sometimes I think he's full of himself, but all musicians are to certain extent. You definitely have to be confident.

He actually attempted some kind of humour though... when he in some intermission on Fevers... got to talk about how his mother used to drown one of his baby brothers every year. ;D And by that making Padriac My Prince more fun than tragic...

MY FRIEND TOLD ME ABOUT THAT!!!!
And I totally believed it...
But we understand that he attended Catholic school, right? Or no? I don't know. But we have concluded that that is the reason for his angst. (We feel his pain here)

I love his voice Unfortunately I associate his music with a horrible period of my life, so listening to it isn't that fun. I really enjoy digital ash though.
