I don't really think that cookegmp was trying to say that everyone should agree with him at all. He was merely stating that Patrick is a person who does go through a lot of changes, which is true, and that just because the new 'genre' of the album is something that is a lot different to his previous stuff, people may just automatically say that it's a bad thing. I must admit that from many responses to this track, I'm feeling that people are just being too wary that Patrick might actually become a successful pop artist and that by doing so he will become arrogant and all the rest of it. I personally don't think that this would happen in a million years, but it's all up to personal opinion. Basically, I'm just trying to say that it's very easy to sit back and say 'oh, bugger off' when cookegmp has just stated something which a lot of 'boarders agree with.

I think she was only saying 'bugger off' to the bit about hipsters and high horses, right?

I find the critiques of this track fascinating. Patrick is my only musical hero who has never failed me. I know that every album I buy of his is going to suprise me, and be as varied as my own tastes in music. I can load up my iPod with Folk, and IDM and Electro and Classical and Rock and Hip Hop... or I can put in a Patrick Wolf album. Wild Life is a great electro pop song, and the masses may love it. It's there because he loves MUSIC. All music, not just one particular genre or style. Being a rabid fan since Lycanthropy when I heard the news of Patrick being signed to Universal I could have been upset that my indie wonder was selling out, but I was excited! I then hear that it's an album of love pop songs. I'm along for the ride. Some of the hipsters here need to get off of their damned high horses and enjoy it for what it is. Patrick will always be their wandering troubadour but somedays he may just wake up and want to be a lanky male Kylie Minogue. And it's that eclectic output that makes me adore his music. I don't think anyone in their critiques of this track was saying that it's bad for Patrick to be changing genre or that they don't think he loves music. I think after 4 albums the majority of Patrick's fans have grasped that he doesn't stick to one distinct genre. However, that doesn't mean we have to like either the new style of music he goes for nor the individual songs. I actually get the impression that most people here are quite open to Patrick playing all different styles of music but that they still expect a certain quality of song writing/recording/performing that they feel this song and/or the bachelor lacks. I also feel that you give off the impression of being more hipstar-ish than most of the people here by implying that we should just blindly enjoy everything Patrick puts out rather than judging it in the way we would with other musicians. Though maybe I just interpretted your comment wrong, it's late and I'm tired. In short, I pretty much agree with Florence.

i agree with everything you said florence, particularily this. there's no problem with patrick doing something different, i love the first three albums and the routes he took on each one, it's just that all the music he's making these days seems to be, well, shit. for example, the batchelor was full of songs he's been performing for a while, some of which i loved to bits, like theseus, then on the album it has non-sensical beeps over the top and superfluous talking and is generally just a mess. that's upsetting. i reckon most of the problem comes from him NOT being on a label anymore - although there's no-one to have conform to, there's no-one to tell him that it's crap and he needs to change it -basically he's like morrissey without marr - he needs someone to reign that ego in, although i fear that horse may have bolted a long time ago. anyway i went off on a ramble there. It was a very good ramble. A very good and very true ramble. Florence and Sibz get an exalt each.

I have come to the conclusion that Patrick's trying to at least once test out every genre he can. I do not mind this at all. XD
I've never been one to judge music on genres, or really to compare artists to each other. I judge on "How much can I listen to this song, or do I want to listen to this song, before I get sick of it?" That said, after a few days, I keep getting this one stuck in my head, and it makes a great song to walk to the train station with.
Some people have made some very good points here. I already exalted cookegmp. Interesting to see how wildly different peoples' opinions of this track are. Personally, I like it.

At first listening I was doubtul (like with Vulure), but it's quite sure that it once again will get into my heart! This guy can make excellent music, no matter of the genre! I love to be surprised by him...

No shame Wild life Daylight Sacrifice No pain Wild life wild life (b) let me help you find a place that you belong help you find a place that we belong let me find a place that we belong help me find a place that we belong repeat (a) live your wild life and then I have no idea.

I thought it was 'day & night', instead of daylight? And I'm not sure of the next bit, but later on it I think it's: 'I know a place we can be together, forget your pain, remember pleasure'

I hear 'remember Heath Leeeeeeeeeeeeeedger!!' Hahah hilarious! It kind of sounds like he sings that. Okay so now I have listened to the song, and first of it feels a little bit unfair to judge the song based on a youtube clip. But thats the only thing we got right now. (Yes I envy those who saw him..) Someone said it sounds Madonna-ish and I kind of agree, with the beats. Truthfully I don't know what to think, and if I would hate it now, doesn't mean anything. I loathed Vulture in the beginning, quite like it now I must say. The thing with Patrick, that I like about him, and never get tired of his music is that he is changing all the time! It's a good thing, and at the same time I feel a little bit sad because I know that the WITW era wont come back. So, I will listen to this a few times, and will wait to hear how it will sound on the album. Because we know that the song can change dramatically during that time.. And btw, someone said ACE, yeah I can so hear them play this song, when I was there recently and asked them to play Patrick (just because I know that they would so do that there) and they said that they would probably do that, and they didn't! I went quite mad, haha! EDIT: In the middle of the song, around 2:50 the beat kind of reminds me of the Swedish band Kent, the song Ingenting www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RhDR-ks6vI
