I didn't vote cos music made after the nineties is obviously all shithouse.. who voted for Blue Roses? A good soild Bradfordian slap on the back to that man or lady! Why that would be me I disagree with most of your post though; no-one disses on AnCo and GrizzBro, as they are affectionately known to some (me).

L-Gro is a friend of mine. If by "friend" you mean "someone you have on facebook and who you use to bump into on nights out in the tiny Bradford "alternative" scene who'd kindly humour you whilst you ranted about your teenage glam rock band and favourite Fleetwood Mac album"

I like St Vincent though and Florence (all you backlashers can take a one way trip to "suck it" city). Bat for Lashes are alright. The Bachelor probably wasn't the best album of the five seconds directly after it was released. The singers over-baring persona, terminally affectation ridden vocals and playschool politics superimposed over crud sonic tracings around the second side of The Hounds of Love.. do.not.want (the other three albums are so FAB they should have moptops and come from Liverpool however!). Animal Collective are legit contenders for the worst band of all time, everything I hate about modern music wrapped in a neat little vomit strewn package. Grizzly Bear are dull, I don't even know who Fever Ray, Micachu and the Shapes or Soap and Skin ARE, to be fair to them they were disadvantaged in the all important quest for my musical approval by not releasing their cuts and jams in the nineties, you know back when music was good and around here there was nowt but fields. Off-topic ( ) but if I understood your very long sentence right you compared The Bachelor to Disc 2 of HoL? Are you a HoL fan and do you like any of her other albums? And back ontopic ( ;D) I will definitely be working my way through a lot of this list, so thanks

Yes I like HoL more than I like sherbert dips and bouncy castles in fact. Kate Bush took the house and utterly rocked it everytime she pulled a LP out of her most fetching hat. The Dreaming is my fave.
Yeah, tis not big secret Paddy Woooooo is influenced by Bush.. especially when he goes all folksy wolksy on us..
My advice to you is never give up on your dreams. That cherry pie WILL be yours, I can feel it in my fingers (I feel it in my toes)

Haha thanks for the advice! The Dreaming is my favourite also Along with Aerial, I'm guessing you voted for it too, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it did in the Best Of thingy. Edit: I'm such a div. It got ten points and I put it first so I guess all of the 10 points are me if it's done in that point system way? So what I should say I guess is...shame on you

Josh, you should come out of the nineties and try to listen to some more modern music. I know you won't, but it wouldn't hurt to hear a new side to the regular rant, which I believe you must have readily available by ctrl+v.

haha, that made me chuckle N-dog.
It's not that I think noughties indie music is for the most part emperically BAD.. I mean the stuff that comes out of the indie scene over the last few years is quite emphatically not for me . The music I like be it Motown, The Smiths or Daniel Johnston (or indeed Wolfy before he morphed into Bruno) is all about communication and universal human experience.
A group like Animal Collective on the other hand seems to be equivalent to a child bashing on pots and pans and making spazzy noises "because they can" where as a Morrissey or a Daniel Johnston sing "because they have no choice but to do so"
I feel that the world of modern indie outside of the mainstream is a small, insular and limiting, with overly stated rules of what consistutes cool. I spent quite some time listening to that world's "albums of the year" recently and while there were some things I liked.. mainly I got the impression of musicians trying to do something original and challenging... rather than something good. haha. High on lyrical obscurity and wanky prog time-changes and low on universal emotional cathersis or the communication of ideas.
It seems on both a global and local level like musicans and hipsters making music for musicans and hipsters and ignoring the wider world which is all well and good.. but I do fear that pop music is being divided between the light entertainment X-Factor mainstream and an alternative world that is dragging the form towards being an artistically and economically elitist and purely niche one like classical music and jazz.

Taken the (admittedly more considerable) time to get into some of their lyrics, etc? Anyhoo, I won't waste my time. To each their own, and for those who wish to have a narrower taste, I salute you.

Oh come on.. this isn't a game of one upmanship.. but I bet I have more soul, funk, jazz and hip hop in my collection than most posters here, as well as a wide chronological spread of well known and less well known artists from the last last 50 years of music.
Just cos I dislike (and even here I like the odd thing here and then) most modern arthouse/blog/pitchfork indie that doesn't make my taste narrow.
Of course, there was a point a few years back when I was interested in giving AC an honest shot, everyone was going on about them etc I listened with an open mind and thought they were bab. End.

OK, that is all I wanted to hear! I had a bit of a hard time with Animal Collective after the Luke thing seeing as he was going on about them quite a bit but I found my way back to the songs I loved from first listen. And also to some of the songs I hated upon first listen, like Slippi.
Sorry to call you narrow, dude. I felt the "pots and pans" thing was unfair so I wanted to be unfair back. Like the child that would bang on the aforementioned FUCKING fdfghjkKITCHEn appliances.
Also, I have to agree that there is a lot of what you call Pitchfork indie which is incredibly samey and bland, but annoying as that place can be, they do review and talk about a wider array of bands an artists than their "own" genre. See the review of Immortals latest album, for example. They're about as narrow as you are, I suppose...?
