I can't even remember how it goes, except that it's annoying, it sticks out like a baboon's arse on that album, along with vulture.

I feel that I must have a say on this question I wasnt going to but here goes. I do not think that battle is the worst song ever written. In fact it is the most wonderful song ever compared to the likes of the charts. Remind me, why is Justin Bieber infesting all men in High Wycombes hair style? WHY ARE THEY ALL BEIBERITES? Anyway, returning to the question, I think that the song has a good message and I find it very interesting to listen to since I read Patrick's post earlier. I like what it is saying and I think the genre of the music fits in with the lyrics very well. However, I am not usually a fan of that style and therefore it is not one of my favourites (though it has grown on me). The thing that annoys me about it is that it is after Theseus on the album which is one of my favourite songs on the album as it is really beautiful and I feel that after I have listened to Theseus (and most probably cried) the last thing I want to hear after gorgeous violin is an aggressive sounding guitar :L Having said that, listeining to the album in full I think it definatly needs to be there and deserves a place, after all, Patrick wanted it to be in the album and it is his music so we must respect the fact that it is and realise there is a good reason for its place x (I also enjoy the lyrics being on my mug )

Wow I just read this whole thing... And remembered why I don't come on here anymore... Too many disrespectful people... Why does everyone have to tear each other apart?? To answer the question of this thread: no I do not think Battle is the worst song... It's not on the top of my list, but I still like it... I also enjoyed Patrick's explanation he posted.

No, Battle is not the worst song on The Bachelor, either; and since I can't even make out any lyrics when listening to it, I don't think the writing is the problem (unlike in say, Damaris, with it's shallow, repetitive pop lyrics that I don't see anyone complaining about.) The writing is just fine, and the message is great.
"Everyone" does not get bullied growing up; some people don't at all, while those of us who were outcasts and glbt people were sometimes severely, traumatically bullied. I don't think people who suffered a lot less have the right to make snide comments. Some people were kicked out of their homes and had to start living on the streets at 12 years old.

I love Battle! I remember the first time I heard it was at the Classic Grand in 2009, and Patrick disappeared in amongst the crowd during it. I was thinking "please please come past me". Then just before he climbed back onto the stage, he came right past me and sang the "Don't you know it's time" line just to me!!! So now I always think of that as my line When I'm listening to Battle and trying to say/think something about Patrick I sometimes end up calling him "Pattle" by mistake ;D ;D ;D Anyway, I really like Battle, it's angry and not exactly the most melodic song so I can see why it might not be to some people's taste. But I like all different types of songs and I've always loved Battle <3

^ Yeah, I have to agree. It's angry, it's loud, and I don't listen to it in the context of other Patrick songs. It has a time and a place.
Maybe it's just me but I got thrown in front of a bus in middle school (it wasn't moving fast enough that I got hit or anything, not that those kids cared) because I was fat and queer and weird. And then I got older and I used to be vaguely religious but open minded and I told my pastor that I was attracted to women and in love with a girl and he stopped speaking to me entirely and I was basically cut off from everyone I knew at church and became really cynical because of the rejection.
And so there's a part of me that is really angry. It isn't all the time, but a lot of people have that place and need to get it out sometime so that they can be good, happy, loving people the rest of the time.

Well, I think almost all of Patrick's fans have been bullied from time to time. I certainly was, I think Siouxsie and the Banshees helped me far more than 'Battle' - I do not like the idea that 'aggression' is always masculine, there is a form of feminine aggression and I think that needs to be harnessed more than this petty, adolescent, rebellion-esque, boredom of a track.

I don't really like defining things as masculine and feminine. I don't think it's unfeminine to be angry, and I don't think being angry is inherently petty.

Neither do I, but as I recall Patrick called this album 'masculine'. I also did not state that I thought it was unfeminine to be angry, Women tend to have a different method of approach to anger than men (whether this is through social influence or pre-disposition - or a combination of both).

It's not the worst song EVER written, but it's definitely a low point for him and does not fit on this album. Saying this, however, I also think Vulture doesn't really fit either... The two tracks seem separate from the album - they seem a bit black and white and more electronic than the other songs. Maybe Battle should have been a B-side or something..
