yes. yes it possibly is. i was wildly dissapointed with the most recent disc, but tacking that track on near the end was just exacerbating my pain and embarasment.

I had a big debate (who am I kidding, argument) with my brother who is a big Muse fan who claimed that Battle was a Muse rip-off. As if Matt Bellamy has overdrive copyrighted. Is that what you're saying, brother of mine?

I don't think the lyrics are anything special, but I wouldn't read/hear them and start laughing or wincing like with a lot of 'bad' music.
Hmm, I'm listening to it now, think I'd only heard it once before this. I like it. I'm sure it helps I've seen the lyrics and Patrick's comment first, but still. Reminds me a bit of The Darkness tbh, keep waiting to hear bits of 'Black Shuck'.
Aaah, I'm liking it more and more as it goes on. I think if he'd tried to make it all multilayered and intricate with those blunt lyrics, then it wouldn't be that good. But it's Patrick so there's the prevalent wry amusement behind it all anyway, and the shouting and stuff just gives it a fun edge, the thinking person's Tupthumping (sort of a tiny bit).

It's a fiery anthem of fist pumping FREEDOM!!!! Did you just compare it to Black Flag with a straight face? ...and you call other people ridiculous? It's about as punk as Razorlight.

I like Battle.
Mainly because im into heavier music.I know Battle is in no way heavy but heavier than Patricks other work.
Battle is amazing live.It definatly isnt a normal album track. Its only on their for the live experience.
Its no way near his best though lol.

I was simply referencing your closed-mindedness. Not comparing it to anything in particular. And, for the record, I do it with a gay face.

The topic for your thread ponders if "'Battle" is the worst song ever written. Of course, there are songs I do not like... but I don't start threads in forums that serve to attack them! "Is 'Battle' your least favorite song on 'The Bachelor'/written by Patrick Wolf?" Would be a less incendiary question, wouldn't it? Why so angry? A lot of times I find I don't like a song... but it grows on me. Sometimes I don't like artists/bands on the first listen... and sometimes that changes. I think your approach is closed-minded, and a premature judgment of something quite final: WORST SONG EVER! The answer to your question, then, is NO. It can't be the worst song ever written. The worst song ever is probably an unwritten one. The End. Cheers, RC PS- Which songs do you *like*, Mr. Nicholas (BEST SONG EVER)

Well, The Bachelor is one of my favorite records of 2009, but it does appear to me a step backwards from Wind in the Wires in terms of depth, sophistication of arrangements, organic structure etc. It's a more juvenile record - which is not meant as a judgement - and Battle is the most juvenile song on the album. An enjoyable burst of energy, quite derived musically and clichéd lyrically, but fun to listen to. It's an enjoyable B-movie.

you are slightly right to protest. according to the topic of this thread I have to correct myself: battle is not the worst song ever written.

In other news war is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength. I bought this book today (I'm about five pages in!) and so now I understand that this isn't just you being glib, it's a reference, and now I get the reference, etcetera. yeah, but, "since i was 12 it was me versus the world". really. i played it to someone the other night who refused to believe it wasn't a joke. I've had SO MANY laughs at the expense of that part of the song. Ahh good times.
