personally, i think this may be my favorite wolf record and certainly will top my year end list. though, like what i wrote last night, it's going to be a grower and something that may require a bit of distance. listen, leave it for a few months, listen again. i do think if you give the album the patience, it's well worth it. at any rate, i have it filed other you get it or you don't. I completely disagree. It's a very accessible album, not a grower at all.

Instead I completely agree. It had exactly this effect on me

It had exactly this effect on me did you get it straight away or are you still wondering about it? i remember when year zero came out and i liked it and thought it was ok and then i didn't listen to it for some time. then one day i put it on and it's "oh..right!" it's one of my favorite records now. i'm sure there will be some stuff like that as well, starting off not caring and then end up loving it to bits.

Yeah I appreciate what you're saying but I guess most people who listen will be existing PW fans. And then there's my mate who really wasn't into Patrick Wolf and is more in the mainstream Radio 1 crowd; he's loving the album!

Though I've not actually heard "The Bachelor" yet, I'm kind of intrigued by the wildly different opinions of it. It's not even a simple case of some liked it and some didn't, most of us don't even seem to be able to agree on how accessible or successful the album is going to be, something you can tell pretty much from the fist track of all of his previous albums. I could have told you within the first 30 seconds of TMP that it was a far more accessible album than it's 2 precursors and i think most people would agree with that. Wind In The Wires was a pervasive, slow acting album, not lending itself well to instant hooks (though all the better for it) and Lycanthropy, though the most energetic, always gave the impression of being deliberately difficult listening (again, though, all the better for it). Interesting that this one should be less instantaneously obvious in it's mass appeal, or possibly lack thereof. A great divider. It's going to be even more interesting seeing how the two campanion albums work together and how effective people think that is. Will "Battle" have a battle on it's hands? I guess time will tell
