The studio recording is the best version of the song I've heard. Yet I've only heard one other live performance Anyway, Marianne Faithful’s voice makes for such a nice contrast. I'm constantly being surprised by how well the songs on this album have been produced. It's almost as exciting and freaky as seeing Paddy on channel 4.

I like the begining, but then she starts singing and it really creeps me out.

For me, this song is the best of the album. Maybe for emotion it bring (the violin, flying like a bird, the mix of the 2 voices... ). This song contains a real emotional strength.

I like the begining, but then she starts singing and it really creeps me out. Yep. I reckon I'd have nightmares after listening to this in the dark.

I guess because I'd never heard Marianne Faithful before this, it was definitely jolting to hear the song the first few times, and especially her first line: "There's no name for us"--there's such a huge contrast between the sound of her voice and Patrick's. But really, I think they fit together perfectly for this song, and her voice is so well-suited for singing the magpie's lines. One of my favorites as well.

Doesn't really tickle my fancy. Then again, give me a week or two as usual.

I like the begining, but then she starts singing and it really creeps me out. I agree. 'Magpie' is actually the only song of Patrick's that I skip, just because of Marianne's bit. Shame really.

I like Magpie, actually. It's like some sort of preformance art piece. I wrote a story based on the song awhile ago, about a boy speaking to a magpie, using the lines of the song.

So Marianne Faithful does the other voice?!! I cannot beleive that, because I could have sworn it was a male voice.. haha oh gawd! I thought the other voice belonged to Patrick who was trying to sound creepy (like a mean, old witch from a fairytale lol) and funny and all things like that :---------D and then I come here to find out that the other voice actually belongs to A WOMAN. now how wmbarrassing is that, huh?! I think I won.

^ Marianne Faithful? oh I'm sure she has better things to do Hahahaaaa. Yeah, I reckon so too. It's a funny thought though, her sitting at a computer in slippers and drinking Ovaltine. "That blasted forum is being rather rude about me. I didn't get this from the Metallica fans -turns up nose-"
