Ryan Adams is an exceptionally good musician, a bit like patrick wolf in the way he can make an album like "love is hell" and still write loud rockers like the most of "Rock and roll" and tina toledos streetwalkin' blue (one of my favourites). Except patrick piles on the volume in a more electro sense I suppose...
Have you ever seen the film "Beetlejuice"? its about a family who move to a big old house but die in a car crash when the bridge over a nearby river collapses. They spend the rest of the film trying to scare the new inhabitants out as thier spirits are living in the house as normal... "we could grab a couple of sheets and give them quite a scare". Im sure the songs based on it.

...I love songs that conjure up places so well. I think that's part of the magic of Patrick for me - so many of his songs evoke certain locations; you can see all the moors and the seas. 'Teignmouth', 'Penzance', 'London', 'Paris' - it makes you want to be there soooooo badly, doesn't it?! Lauren x Haha Teignmouth is rubbish you really dont want to go there. You would be dissapointed, I cant see what Patrick saw in it at all.

I think Teignmouth is more about "getting there" than "being there"...

so HERE'S the Demolition thread (I was looking)
this song just floooooors me. I can't move at all when it's on. To me, it is quite spiritual in the way of talking about your OWN 'floor' collapsing (loss of ego?) and being drawn to some other force (Love, God, LOVER, whatever is pulling you like a magnet) despite your hesitations and reservations priorhand before meeting this new existence
so it's a "good" destruction. And the struggle of letting yourself go and ALLOW the love to happen
and I really need this song after Childcatcher

Demolition sounds so bleak that I couldn't handle it a lot of times before. But nowadays I give it enough attention.
By the way, the Lowlands session version of "Demolition" is lovely. The piano in it is better than the looping xylophone & has more interesting rhythm.

I love Demolition, if only because of how desperately sad it is.
