Spider Pig was the best part. Don't say that! See, the whole Spider Pig was fairly entertaining - the operatic version inparticular - but they've used it on too many clip shows and too many utterly stupid people have quoted it before now that it's already lost a lot of it's clout. I think it will have died a death by this time next week, and will sound in the Simpsons backlash. My words! Mark them. As for the film, I thought it was good times. There were a few jokes that fell flat - the advert ticker, the 'to be continued', and the gay cops (which were met with an eloquent 'ergh! Poofs!' by the neds sitting opposite my boyfriend and I) - but Marge is my ultimate homegirl for life, and Marge and Homer are my OTP, so anytime their marriage is in jeoprady I get all wibbly and sad and want everything to be okay again. I totally cried. I'm not even a huge Simpsons fan - I'd watch it if it was on and there was nothing better going, but I don't go out of my way to tune in or anything - so I think it's a testament to how much these characters have permeated the lives of our generation that an emotionally stunted snarkbot like myself was moved to express any sort of emotion. Also, any film that kills Green Day within the first five minutes is pretty much garaunteed a good review on my part. Cheerio, Michael. xxx Perhaps being as you aren't a huge Simpsons fan you weren't as conscious that the "Homer and Marge nearly break up in a emotional fashion, Homer redeems himself" thing has been done more than once, and much better. I don't know I just thought perhaps all the shameless recycling of past storylines from the series was actually deliberate as the creators might have wanted the film to act as a sort of hour and half summation of everything The Simpsons has been over the years, but no it didn't work for me at all personally. They may as well have just edited together a clips show to be honest.

I feel like I've already seen this movie, what with the various 10 minute trailers shown on TV all hours of the day over and over again.
But the Simpsons have really been going downhill over the last few years, mainly due to a lack of original storylines, so I'd be surprised if the movie was any different. My brother enjoyed it apparently, but he's 14 and likes American Dad so his opinion is null and void.

Perhaps being as you aren't a huge Simpsons fan you weren't as conscious that the "Homer and Marge nearly break up in a emotional fashion, Homer redeems himself" thing has been done more than once, and much better. Just because I'm not a big Simpsons fan, doesn't mean I haven't seen my fair share of episodes; Sad Marge gets me everytime, though. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the 'recycled' plots and the fact that a lot of it wasn't vastly different to what's been on the show, and I have to wonder what they were expecting. The show itself has been running for decades; there are only so many plots, and when your characters maintain the same age and emotional maturity as they did when the show started, there are only so many things you can do with them. They were never going to re-invent the wheel; rather, give the fans what they've been wanting for a long time, namely a feature length Simpsons episode. I think they delivered, and - with the 'Summer blockbuster parody' elements - added an interesting dimension on top of it. I honestly don't know what else they would have done. Don't none of you dare mention 'live action'. Red flag to a bull... Cheerio, Michael. xxx

Yeah, even Spider Pig isn't original, because there was that one episode where Homer has a ham (wow that sure narrows it down) and at the end they have a montage of the ham and Homer having fun, like eating ice cream and going on rollercoasters. I wish I could remember the rest of the episode, though.

I honestly don't know what else they would have done. Something clever, imaginative, satirically spot on and hilarious like Nineties Simpsons would have been nice. Anyone who watched the majority of the Futurama episodes knows Groaning is still capable of this. Hell this movie wasn't The Simpsons, it was a Simpsons pastiche

I'd like a movie where they are all grown up or something of that sort. Sort of like the Harry Potter epilogue type thing, but better.

A "in the future" based Movie wouldn't help with my "rehash!" taunts as thats been done at least twice as well.
In one of them Lisa is president.
"China still cool!"

A "in the future" based Movie wouldn't help with my "rehash!" taunts as thats been done at least twice as well. The problem is though, with a series that has run as long as the Simpsons, finding new material is a lot harder than it first appears. Any idea that they come up with, it's always going to be similar to some episode or some gag, however tediously. Futurama did the right thing, quitting while it was ahead. Every episode of that show still seems fresh (and a hell of a lot funnier than the Simpsons ever was), because it didn't run long enough to have to rehash old episodes. Plus because it was sci-fi based, anything could really happen - to be honest how much can you really do with a family of five.

I liked the movie, but it had the same problem as the new episodes have - it was too nonsensical and random at parts. Not like back in the day when the episodes had a plotline. But that was probably because they had to pad it out so it was long enough to be a film. I didn’t find the Spider Pig thing remotely funny… but then I didn’t find it funny when I saw it on the adverts and trailers a million times either. Also, the combination of three or four plotlines which have already been used was slightly disappointing, the Marge and Homer breaking up, Simpson’s family relocating to a different town, etc. It was nice enough, but there definitely shouldn't be a sequel. That's true, Futurama rules.

They're making more Futurama. Movies that are going to be split up into episodes or something. But I am very very excited. Even as much as I liked The Simpsons in its heyday, Futurama was always ten times better and I still quote it.

I liked it. I wasn't like the most hilarious thing I have seen or anything, but it was worth it.
