After a little while, people seem to adjust to smoking bans. It seems to have gone pretty well in New York.

I mean it's odd, I have such semi-liberatarian principles that even though the smoking ban will likey benefit me. I would still campaign against it on principle.
It's like all my banging on about protecting fascists freedom of speech and all that.

but doesn't the government provide health care for those found to have lung cancer and such? it's kind of an and around way to try to prevent more people going to the hospital and "wasting" government money on something that can be prevented.

There the down side of socialism really, it's detrimental for personal freedom, for the system to work. (I know we don't live in a socialist country but the free government provided health care is a socialist concept)

There is unfortunately no perfect system of government.
I'd like to see what America would be like with universal health care.

There is unfortunately no perfect system of government. Yep, that why politics is such a depressing and disillusioning subject. Basically I see it like this, socialism gives you greater government protection at the expense of certain freedoms, and libertarianism gives you greater freedom at the expense of government protection.

Why do you hate free health care?
Are you in favour of free education? What about State pensions and benefits?

I smoke, and when the ban first came in up here in Scotland, I felt the exact same way. During the winter, it was a nightmare to nip outside of the pub for a smoke in the storms and gails. In the end, we resorted to holding on for as long as possible before sharing an umbrella. During the summer nights when it's nice and warm, it's quite nice, I think. On the upside, pubs smell cleaner! It's very nice. On top of that, "nipping out for a fag" has given me an opportunity to get to know people better. You find things to try to talk about, haha. An interesting fact is that sales of "quality" fags like Marlboro have gone down, since people can no longer see what you're smoking outside the pub - more people are smoking Mayfair, Windsor Blues, etc. Clare, I obsess over my weight, too. I run every morning. EVERY morning. I STILL have gained 15 pounds since last year, and I'm so incredibly upset with myself... I feel like I should be sympathising with you for the weight gain, when a logical part of me thinks there's nothing wrong! Unfortunately, I struggle with eating habits; trying to balance my eating disorders and veganism. :-\

I've found that veganism has helped me not be so obsessive about weight/image, though I can't explain exactly why.

Probably because there is no possible way to be eating fattening foods. I am vegetarian and eat eggs and dairy. I'm a bit chubby, because I rely on that kind of stuff to be filling because veggies usually are not and are more expensive.

Yeah, it's definitely helped me loads even in the last month; but unfortunately, at my lower moments, my EDs and obsession with weight and image keep coming back. It's even worse this week because I'm on my period, therefore I feel like the Michellin Man.
Boo hiss!

There are still plenty of possibilities to eat unhealthfully. I have found the loopholes!

That's really awesome. I know I don't look terrible, but still... after losing 15 pounds last summer and then gaining it all back over the course of the year, I just feel gross. I should just go vegan.

Seeing as you're talking about weight etc., I want to bring up something that's been bothering me for a while now. Has anyone else noticed that on the merchandise section of Patrick's site it has a size 12 (english sizes) listed as large? Just wondering if anyone else has noticed/cared..
