and voila, my love started there I kept reading this as "viola, my love started there". After being confused for about 3 minutes, I finally realised that the reason it was making any sense was because I can't read properly.

Someone on a message board recommended "The Childcatcher"--not the most accessible song but it started the addiction. 'Twas spring of 2005, WITW was already out.

ok, my first encounter was around september/october 2005. Bloc party, I was looking for the supports and one of them was a certain mr.Patrick Wolf.
then. forgot about him.
Summer 2006, I had downloaded a song called "The Libertine" from the Bloc Party fanclub called Marshal's and listened to it a couple of times. It increased in listenability and I became obsessed. Then I downloaded Teignmouth from iTunes with a free song offer from a coke bottle.
etc.etc.

Not really all that inspiring I think but yeah, was sat in one late night and MTV2's 120 minutes did something on him, niether song name nor artist stuck me until a few months later when the violin riff came on over some stereo and I jumped "WHO'S THAT?" and the rest as they say is Geography.
Ages ago now thinking of it.

I am ridiculously obsessed with the Sims and there is this woman that does these sims stories that are AMAZING and her screen name thingy is Aikea_guinea. She constantly referenced Patrick Wolf's music and so one day I just had to listen and see if he was as good as this woman was making him out to be. So, the first song I heard of his was Paris and I'll be honest I cried a little it was so beautiful. I got instantly obsessed and bought all of his albums and then I got all of my friends hooked on him which made me pleased. I still cry a little every time I hear Paris for my good fortune in stumbling upon Ole Patty. I am forever in debt to Aikea_guinea.

Through a series of events linked to photography stores, concerts, and un-knowingly knowing people before actually having met them, I came to meet my friend Natasha who ended up having a nearly identical (though admittedly, in many senses much broader) musical taste to my own. She introduced me to Patrick Wolf's music during one of our first few meetings, and I've been listening to him ever since. We also happened to meet him together before one of his Mod Club shows this year

I saw his name around somewhere, possibly on Myspace, and decided to download some. I think the first song I heard was 'The Libertine', and I fell in love.
Best decision of my life. ;D

My friend dragged me along to a concert and I fell in love. Same thing with the Horrors =] edit: she sent me a song before the concert and it was Tristan, good choice on her part, if she would've sent me Eulogy I wouldn't have been so interested (although I love Eulogy now)

oh yes, and then 3 days later i saw him at the scala on halloween. I was meant to be going with ym sister but she was ill and iu was quite scared on the way there. remember i was still 14 and having to travel to kings cross on my own. I got to the front for the gig and it remains one of my happiest memories to this day. THE END (the msot ridiculously long account of how soemone heard patrick wolf EVER ) i like long accounts :) and i'm envious of your solo 14-year old gig adventure. there's no way i'd have been allowed to do that at that age! i really only truly discovered patrick a month or so ago. i stumbled upon the magic position video on youtube and just couldn't get it out of my head afterwards.. the words, the colours.. it just made me so happy. so i had to buy the album. strange thing is, a year earlier an internet friend had suggested i listen to him, and i'd bought the wind in the wires.. at the time though i was going through a phase of trying to avoid sad dark music.. i don't really know why, i was blindly trying to force myself to be happier.. so much as i liked his songs, i couldn't listen to them at the time. but now, i'm very glad i still have that album. now i just need to get lycanthropy. that's my long account.

i had a friend from my new school come over to my house one day and i'd put my ipod on shuffle with microphones plugged to it, so he heard the music that was coming from my room and immediatley thought i'd like this guy, the next day he sent Tristan to me over msn and i fell inlove uuhm that should've bin about 9 or 10 months ago...

Early Spring 2005, I went snooping on my friends' Last.fm (then Audioscrobbler) profiles, and several of them were listening to some dude named Patrick Wolf, whom I thought was a long lost relative to Rikard Wolff (old, creepy Swedish musician). Still, I felt the need to ask them about it, they said LISTEN, YOU'LL LIKE, and I did. And did. Oh so much. The thought that I would've missed out completely if not for some site on the internets is slightly frightening.

I read about Patrick in the local newspaper sometime after WITW was released. Unfortunately, since it was yesterday's paper, I found out that he'd been playing the night before, which meant I'd already missed him. I was still curious about the music, though... To my big surprise, my favourite record store at the time had some copies of the album. so I listened a bit in the store, bought it immediately and, well, I've been listening and collecting obsessively since then.

Some website about new and interesting music when lycanthropy was about to be released. It was during a time when I thought all new music was really boring and I was soo tired on all my old records so I was really happy that I found him.
