I completely forgot about this song! probably cause I don't play my cardboardsingles too often, apparantly there was no version of that single (tristan) that came in a jewelcase back then. but I heard this song again yesterday, probably after a year or so, and wooohaa I was blown away!now this is the Patrick I love. the melody is so beautiful I can barely take it in. and this is exactly what I miss on TMP. only augustine comes a little close to it.. (I love TMP, let's get that clear, but it just doesn't touch me on a deep level)

Yes. Hazelwood is one of my favorites. The tune kind of reminds me of 'pumpkin soup'.. which is another of my favorites. haha
The Magic Position is more of a .. 'pop' album. It's happy.. the kind of music that makes you want to stand up and tap-dance. Songs like The Hazelwood, Pumpkin Soup, Demolition, et cetera- they make you just want to sit there and marvel at how gorgeous they are.

oh yes pumpkinsoup oh my god! I really really hope he gets back in to making that sort of songs really!! but even when I heard some of the new songs acoustic live, on radiosessions and all, I felt that the melodies just aren't as beautiful as they used to be. this is ofcourse, how I feel it.

The Hazelwood is a B-Side... I think it was on the cd version of the Tristan single. Not sure if there are any live versions. Could check that out.

There is a live version. On a dubland podcast or something. I could link an mp3 to the live version if my computer wasn't gone. Google isn't leading me back to the site. :/

It's amazing how he stuck to Yeats' "The Song of Wandering Aengus" which was infact about the hazlewood in County Sligo.

It is rather cool, I think Patrick did a lovely job.
Donovan also did the same thing as a track on HMS Donovan in about 1970, but he didn't rename it. Check it out - but I wouldn't recommend buying that Donovan album as it's not his best!

I just heard this song for the first time yesterday - it is soooo beautiful I can't even describe. Gah....I love it.
When he says "flickering out" ....eee
I can't even put into words obviously, but this song really makes me realize all over again why I fell in love with Patrick.

Does anyone else think it's a bit 'meh'? I think it was better in poem form What I mean is, I don't think he conveys the emotion of the poem as well it could of been. The words are really beautiful, but it just doesn't come across in the song.

This song reminds me of hippy ballerinas dancing about Middle Earth. IT IS GREAT.
