when i saw patrick in manchester the other day he introduced teignmouth as "teen-mouth"
but the town is pronounced like "tin-muth"
unlike the area teignbridge, which is "teen-bridge"
oh devon people are odd, but i wish i could have explained that to him.
i have no idea why i am starting a thread about this.

That tattoo is freaking adorable. I'm against most lyrical ones, but it's just vague and simple enough to be lovely. Good show.

I went past Teignmouth the other day; and the Train Conductor said (as i listened very carefully to the crackly tannoy) 'Tin- Muth'....

Definately Tinmuth, if you're local. I made the mistake of calling it Teenmouth when I first moved down here. I live in the town next door. My other half did a phone interview with Patrick the other day and informs me he pronounced it correctly.
Also, yeah Tinmuth is sucky, although I had a nice pot of earl and a toasted teacake there last week.

My family goes on holiday to Holcombe several times a year, so I'm rather more familiar than I'd like with the crappiness of Teignmouth.
That said, wasn't the song just influenced by Patrick taking a night-train through Teignmouth whilst going somewhere else, and not by the village itself? Is it even a village? (Irrelevant fact: last summer, I was staying in Holcombe with friends and we ran out of alcohol, so two of us ran to Teignmouth in search of wine and, at ten o'clock on a Friday evening, there was not a single off-license open. We decided that marked it down to a hamlet.)

Teignmouth is a town, but the railway through there is actually a really nice journey. Goes along the cliffs. I'd chose that over the Megabus any day but I have no money.

Yeah, he's never actually been to Teignmouth, it was all about the train journey.
I'm currently about a 30 sec drive away from Holcombe! And my lil brother's girlfriend lives there too!

I agree: it is a beautiful journey. Just don't stop off and look around Actually, that's a little unfair - I enjoy walking along the Wall. I just can't stand the uber-soft-tourism of town/hamlet/whatever itself. Batgirl, I can't work out if I'm more amazed that you manage to spend all your time there or reluctantly jealous that you get to live right by Gay's Creamery!
