I heard "The Stars" for the first time last night at the Oxford Zodiac - an utterly beautiful song. I cannot wait for the album!

Anyone else reminded of Bjork's 'laptop love-in' album Vespertine with The Stars??

I grab my violin and sing in front of the mirror. But then my mom wakes up with bad breath and yells, "GET THE HELL OUTSIDE!" And yes... the Stars was completely different than what I expected, but I don't care if patrick's songs carry beats. I only want to listen to his voice, his "bizarre" instruments, and his crazy stories that he tells in interviews.

For those of your that STILL haven't heard The stars... ...in the latest podcast (#9) from French magazine Les Inrockuptibles. www.lesinrocks.com/podcast.cfmThe DJ speaks on the outro and doesn't bother giving the title of the song, but it gives you some ideas of how it sounds. The song starts at 9m50s.

yes... sorry. I care about the beats too. But I mean, that A&E is too much.

i dinnae like the album version..
it sounds so sterilised.. way too clean.. its also a bit of a shock after enchanted to suddenly have all these sterilised sounds thrown at you.. it seriously doesn't fit into the album either i wish patrick had recorded it differently although the end is seriously beautiful and a fiiting ending.. i just don't like it apar from the first 40 seconds..

You see I was on a bit of cynical patch about Patrick for a while so I never really went out of my way to hear the live versions of the new tracks and I havent seen him live since the first WITW tour so I dont have the disadvantage of having to compare the album cuts to the live versions im use to.
But really The Stars has over-took Augestine as my favourite on the album.

Curse my grandfather for taking me to see The Sound of Music when I was but a small child.
I listen to The Stars now and keep singing 'so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye.'
Gah.

Oh my!
I've just listened to this song on the cd on a very good sound system: so many layers and sounds, so much depth!!! It's like having zillion little flutterbies flying all around you!
Ok, gotta go listen to it again ;D

this song is a case of one being SO MUCH better live. its his most beautiful song live, and is way weaker on CD.
then again i generally think that patrick is better live and not great on record. this is probably because i heard him live first and then bought lycanthropy and i've noticed with all my friends who've i've introduced to patrick wolf that they like him/don't really care that much but play him a litte when i give them the music but after they've gone and seen him they hit the obsessional button. which would account for the silly amounts of times i've seen him this year. and the reason why there were 15 people in one gang at the underage club. having said that, i did take different friends to all the different gigs

And now I can't listen to The Stars without singing mentally "So looong, fareweeell...., lalalalah, adieu, adieu, to you and you and youuu...". Could both songs be inspired by an Austrian folk song?... ME TOO! I thought I was nuts!
